Vallejo Man Seriously Injured in Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo car accident lawyer. Accident reports indicate that two people were injured during a crash that took place in Sonoma County on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the accident occurred in the morning in a rural roadway location and involved multiple vehicles. The injured individuals were identified as a 31-year-old man from Vallejo and a 32-year-old woman from Petaluma. Reports from CHP stated that the Vallejo man was severely injured during the crash and remains at a hospital in Napa. Updates on the man’s condition have not yet been made available by hospital staff.

Accident Information

According to CHP, the collision took place at about 7:00 a.m. on Lakeville Road to the north of the Highway 37 intersection. The Vallejo man had been driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck northbound on Lakeville when his vehicle suddenly drifted into oncoming traffic lanes. The Toyota swiped the side of a big-rig and finally collided head-on with a southbound Lexus being driven by the Petaluma woman.

The two passenger vehicles were severely damaged during the crash. Reports did not state whether or not either of the vehicles overturned.

Response

Cal Fire, Petaluma Fire Department, the Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department, and CHP staff all assisted in accident response. The driver of the Toyota was discovered with severe injuries and medics had him rushed to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center located in Napa to receive emergency care. The woman was reported to have suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Investigation

The roadway was closed for multiple hours while investigators studied the accident scene and workers removed hazardous vehicle wreckage. According to SigAlert information, traffic lanes had been fully re-opened at 9:30 a.m., about two and a half hours after the collision first took place.

CHP officers say that they have not been able to determine the cause of the accident and do not know why the Toyota initially veered out of its lane. Factors that are frequently involved in crashes like this one include things such as auto part defects, driving while fatigued, medical emergencies, hazardous roadway conditions, and more.

Another Area Crash

While officers were responding to this accident, CHP received notification of another collision that took place on the same road. A 23-year-old man from Rohnert Park had reportedly fallen asleep while driving, causing his truck to travel off the road and into a nearby ditch. Reports stated that the motorist refused to accept medical treatment at the scene of the accident.
