Burney Hit-and-Run Crash Causes Deadly Injury

On Thursday, March 11, 2021, a woman was fatally injured after she was struck by a vehicle during a Burney hit-and-run crash. California Highway Patrol (CHP) states that the collision involved one vehicle and a pedestrian and happened on a local highway at night. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Department reports that they are withholding the name and information of the decedent at this time and will release their identity when their family has been notified. Additionally, police are still looking for the missing motorist and vehicle.

Crash Information

According to police, the crash took place at around 10:30 p.m. on Highway 299 at the intersection of Hudson Street. CHP received a call reporting a pedestrian-involved auto accident. At this time, few details about the circumstances of the accident have been reported. Police say that the involved vehicle may have been a black Jeep and that witnesses stated that the vehicle drove away westbound on Highway 299 directly after the incident.

Response and Investigation of Burney Hit-and-Run

Officers arrived at the location of the crash to find the female pedestrian with critical injuries. Sadly, the woman reportedly lost her life as a result of her injuries on-scene. No other individuals were injured during the collision.

As police continue to look for the driver and vehicle, officers have asked anybody with information about this tragic collision to contact them at (530) 225-0500. CHP indicated that any information would be helpful and appreciated.

Hit-and-Runs and Liability

After deadly auto accidents, family members and dependents of the decedent are often able to file a wrongful death claim against negligent drivers and other at-fault parties in order to obtain compensation for their personal and financial losses. However, in the case of a hit-and-run, the at-fault party isn’t present and might never be located.

While police often do track down hit-and-run drivers, families may still be able to obtain wrongful death compensation even if the at-fault party is never located. This can be accomplished through “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage,” an optional addition to CA insurance policies. Because this coverage is optional, the amount of compensation available can vary. Furthermore, insurance companies may try to offer you less than the amount that you deserve, so it is important to have an experienced Redding wrongful death lawyer on your side before filing your claim.

How to Find a Great Lawyer

Wrongful death cases can be critically important for families, so it is equally important to ensure your attorney has the skills, experience, and resources it takes to guarantee you receive fair compensation for your losses. Thankfully, it’s easier than ever to get in touch with an excellent lawyer. To learn about the best things to look for when searching for a wrongful death attorney in Redding, watch this video:
