Motorcyclist Major Injury Reported in Accident at Watt Avenue Intersection

A major injury traffic crash in North Highlands on July 17 injured a motorcycle rider in an accident involving several motor vehicles. The accident occurred around 9:11 p.m. at the intersection of Airbase Drive and Watt Avenue in the McClellan Park area. The report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that three lanes on northbound Watt were blocked by the collision. The injured motorcyclist was transported to a hospital for the treatment of major injuries. An investigation is underway to determine fault and how the accident happened.

A Motorcycle Crash Often Results in a Major Injury

Motorcyclists often suffer serious injuries in an accident, especially one that involves other vehicles due to their much larger size and weight. The rider can not only be struck by a vehicle but be thrown off, which increases the trauma they experience. Motorcyclists are at risk of injury accidents due to a number of hazards such as dangerous drivers and poorly maintained roads. Motorcycle riders may encounter several risks that can lead to an accident while out on the road, including:

  • Distracted drivers: When a driver texts, talks on the phone, adjusts the radio or does anything else that distracts them from the traffic and roadway around him, it could result in an accident.
  • Drivers turning left in front of motorcycle riders: It is not uncommon for drivers to make a left-hand turn and crash into a rider, which can result in serious trauma. It is difficult to judge the distance and speed of an oncoming motorcycle, so motorists must be extra cautious in order to avoid a collision.
  • Drunk drivers: Impaired drivers are likely to cause motorcycle accidents. A driver impaired by alcohol is unable to stay within their lane, determine their distance from others and has slowed reflexes, which makes stopping more difficult.
  • Speeders: Many motorcycle crashes are caused by speeding motorists. As a result of speeding, vehicles require a longer stopping distance, and drivers are more likely to lose control.
  • Roadway maintenance issues: A motorcycle accident involving a major injury is sometimes caused by government neglect of roadways. A motorcycle crash can occur as a result of potholes, pavement upheavals or other difficulties caused by bad government maintenance. It may be possible to hold a government entity liable for a motorcyclist’s major injury if it is negligent. Because bringing a claim against a government entity is limited to six months, hiring an injury attorney to handle it for you and negotiate a settlement is a good idea.
  • Defective motorcycle parts: Motorcycle parts with defects can cause a major injury, such as faulty steering, accelerator or brakes. A product liability claim can be filed against the manufacturer in these cases.
