Box Truck Involved in Multiple-Vehicle Accident

One injury was reported in Sacramento on June 6 in a multiple-vehicle accident on State Route 99 southbound. The report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the collision occurred around 11:50 a.m. just south of the east Florin Road entrance ramp. It involved a passenger car, box truck and additional vehicle. The collision blocked all four lanes and left debris strewn across the highway. No further information was provided on the injury. The CHP is investigating to find out how the multiple-vehicle accident happened and will assign fault when it has been determined.

Negligence in Multiple-Vehicle Accidents

Multiple-vehicle accidents often begin with two motor vehicles, which can then involve others. Although one driver may be at fault initially, other drivers may also be negligent. For example, a driver may stop short, causing the vehicle behind to strike it. The driver behind the first car might not realize the one in front of them is stopping because their taillights are not functioning. A third motorist is drunk driving and doesn’t notice the accident until too late. The dangers of these types of accidents is in injuries because the vehicles that are involved may be struck more than once, compounding the risk. Of course, the airbags should go off with the first impact. However, they inflate only momentarily and then deflate and are useless in a second collision, increasing the risk of injuries.

Injuries in a Multiple-Vehicle Accident

Serious injuries often occur in accidents that involve multiple vehicles. The most common injuries include:

  • Bone fractures, especially of the arms and legs, are common in a multiple-vehicle accident. More serious fractures to the spine or pelvis can occur also.
  • Traumatic brain injuries are among the most serious and can range from concussions to bleeding on the brain or a penetrating injury. In the most serious cases, the individual may lose cognitive function or die.
  • Chest injuries occur from the seatbelt or from striking the dash or steering wheel. They may include heavy bruising, broken ribs or damage to the lungs or heart.
  • Abdominal injuries can also be caused by the seat belt but can happen if the vehicle is struck in the side. These may include organ damage or internal bleeding.
  • Spinal cord damage occurs when a vertebra is damaged or broken, which can lead to partial or permanent paralysis following a multiple-vehicle accident.

Investigating a Multiple-Vehicle Accident

It is important to conduct an investigation into a multiple-vehicle accident to determine fault and collect evidence. In this way, a client will have a strong case to support their claim. Our investigators begin by going to the collision site as soon as possible to gather evidence. Otherwise, once traffic is allowed to resume, important information may be lost or covered up. In addition, the investigators conduct the following:

  • Accident reconstruction, which is valuable evidence used both in court and by insurance companies
  • Seek camera footage taken by traffic surveillance and business cameras
  • Review the report by police to check for inaccuracies
  • Interview witnesses to the multiple-vehicle accident
  • Look for evidence of government negligence such as malfunctioning traffic lights, potholes and other problems that could lead to a multiple-vehicle accident

Our lawyers take the evidence that has been compiled to construct a robust case for our client. In some instances, it is used for insurance negotiations on behalf of the client. However, if the insurance company refuses to pay what the client requires to cover their losses, the case can be taken to civil court.
