Vehicle Careens Off Cliff in Placer County, Two Injured

Two people were seriously hurt after a vehicle traveled off a cliff in Placer County on Sunday, December 20, 2020. Details from California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicate that the crash happened in the morning in a rural area east of the city of Auburn and south of Grass Valley. Limited information regarding the crash has been reported. However, an investigation into this traumatic collision is ongoing.

Crash Information

The collision happened at about 7:00 a.m. on Mosquito Ridge Road. According to reports, a dark-colored vehicle was traveling on the Mosquito Ridge when, for unknown reasons, it drove off the road and eventually over a nearby cliff, falling over 1000 feet and rolling several times before coming to a rest against a tree.

Police stated that a female vehicle passenger was ejected from the car as it fell, while the male driver remained inside. The woman reportedly climbed back up to the road and was able to flag down a passing driver for help.

Response

After they were notified about the incident, officers immediately dispatched emergency responders to the site. Officers reaching the collision scene discovered that the driver was severely injured. Fire crews were able to reach the vehicle, extricate the driver, and stabilize him. The driver was then placed on a CALSTAR medical helicopter and flown to a regional hospital for emergency treatments.

The passenger was driven to a local fire station by the Good Samaritan. At the station, officials determined that she had also sustained serious injuries and had her transported to a hospital as well. No other individuals were involved in the accident.

Investigation

The Auburn Area CHP Office’s investigation into this crash has not yet yielded any suspected causes. In many cases, crashes like this one are complicated incidents that happen for a number of reasons. Furthermore, many of these types of crashes happen due to non-driver factors. Examples of car accident factors not controlled by drivers include defective roadways and malfunctioning car parts.

Rollovers and Roof Crush Injuries

Vehicle accidents that involve a rollover are highly likely to cause severe trauma. There are a few reasons for this, but a key factor is weak vehicle roofs. If a car’s roof is not constructed out of strong material or isn’t designed properly, it’s possible that it will cave in during a rollover, leaving drivers and passengers seriously hurt.

When rollovers cause “roof crush injuries,” the company that made the vehicle may be considered a negligent party to the crash. This means that crash survivors can seek compensation from these companies through personal injury claims.

What Can Be Recovered Through a Personal Injury Claim?

Car accident injuries can have far-reaching effects on your life. For this reason, the types of compensation available through personal injury claims cover a wide variety of losses. Not only are survivors able to seek compensation for medical bills, but they are also often able to obtain payments for lost wages, damaged property, personal suffering, and more.

However, every case is different, and the best way to get an idea of what compensation you may be able to claim is to speak directly with an experienced Auburn personal injury lawyer.
