Vacaville Resident Killed in Run-Off-Road Accident

A Vacaville man driving a Dodge Ram pickup was found dead after a run-off-road accident on eastbound Interstate 780 west of the East 2nd Street on-ramp. The crash occurred on August 12 in Benicia, according to an incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The Solano County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased man as Vacaville resident Anthony Jones, 55. A representative of the CHP Solano office confirmed that the driver ran off the road. Authorities were called at about 8:45 p.m. and discovered Jones lying on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.

More Details About the Accident

Authorities have confirmed that the CHP believes Jones was riding alone in the pickup at the time of the crash. However, they are asking for the public’s help to determine the cause of the accident. The highway consists of only two lanes going each way. Traffic was slowed for a time due to the run-off-road accident.

What an Attorney Does

After an accident, it is important to determine why the crash happened, particularly if it only involved a single vehicle. Initially, it might seem that no one else was involved in the crash, however, this is not always the case. This is most common if the at-fault driver leaves the scene of the accident. Other possibilities are roadway conditions or a defective vehicle. Our investigative team will visit the scene of the accident to determine fault. If another driver was involved, we will use some of the techniques we have developed to help police apprehend them. We also review the police records for accuracy and obtain video footage of the accident if possible. If auto defects are an issue, we can file a product liability case. Our legal team uses the data our investigators accumulate and either negotiate with the insurance company for fair compensation or take the case to civil court. Until the case is won, the client will not be charged.

Wrongful Death in a Run-Off-Road Accident

When a loved one dies, family members can face overwhelming grief and a sense of loss. A death caused by another person’s negligence compounds their loss with feelings of disbelief and anger. We understand your grief and aim to help you get through this difficult time. Not everyone approaches grief in the same way. However, everyone does need to deal with a loved one’s demise in order to move on. For some, this means talking about what happened and giving other family members solace. For others, it means bringing the at-fault driver to justice. In order to do this, the services of a wrongful death lawyer are helpful. Your attorney will file the claim after researching your case and obtain the compensation your family deserves.

What Is a Wrongful Death Claim?

In order to file a wrongful death claim, a negligent party must have caused your loved one’s demise. The claim will be able to help the family with the costs associated with a death such as burial and other end-of-life expenses. It will also reimburse them for other financial hardships such as paying bills after the deceased’s support is lost or the many other things the person did around the home for which outside help will become necessary after their demise.

Negligence in a Run-Off-Road Accident

Not all accidents involving a single vehicle are the fault of the driver. Other problems can contribute to the injuries or fatality of the driver. These include:

  • Road maintenance or design: If a road has maintenance problems such as potholes, cracks, or fissures, it can cause a vehicle to go out of control and cause a run-off-road accident. In some cases, the design of the road is faulty when a curve is too sharp for safety. The government entity responsible for the design and upkeep of the roadway can be held responsible in these cases.
  • Aggressive drivers or road rage: In some instances, a motorist may get into an altercation with another driver. That second driver can tailgate, cut in and out of traffic, and commit other dangerous actions that can lead to a run-off-road accident. In some cases, the second driver may even force the first off the road.
  • Medical problems can lead to a run-off-road accident. A driver who is prescribed the wrong medication or dosage can experience a run-off-road accident.
