Causes of a Two-Vehicle Crash

Two-vehicle collisions can occur for a variety of reasons. Common causes include some of the following scenarios:

  • Distractions: Distracted driving can refer to many different activities, such as texting, eating or drinking while operating a motor vehicle, using a navigation system, or talking on the phone. All of these activities take a driver’s attention away from the road and can lead to an accident.
  • Tailgating: Following too closely is another cause of two-vehicle collisions. Maintaining a safe distance between vehicles can give drivers enough time to slow or stop if an obstacle appears suddenly in their path. If the driver behind fails to maintain a safe distance, they may crash into the vehicle ahead.
  • Speeding: Excessive speed is another common cause of two-vehicle collisions. Drivers who travel too quickly for conditions such as wet roads or heavy traffic, may not have enough time to react to obstacles or other vehicles in their path.

How a Lawyer Investigates an Accident to Gather Evidence to Support a Compensation Claim

When a lawyer investigates a two-vehicle collision, they will gather evidence to help prove fault and build a case for compensation. This evidence could include photographs of the crash site and vehicle damage, witness statements, police reports, traffic or weather conditions at the time of the crash and medical records documenting injuries suffered by those involved in the accident.

The lawyer will analyze all the evidence to determine who is liable for the crash and how much compensation should be awarded. To do this, they may consult with accident reconstruction specialists and other experts in order to build a comprehensive case.

Finally, the lawyer will use their findings to pursue a claim on behalf of the injured party or parties. Depending on the circumstances, this could involve negotiating a settlement with the at-fault party’s insurance company or filing a lawsuit in civil court. By gathering evidence, analyzing it and pursuing claims through negotiation and litigation, lawyers can help injured individuals receive the compensation they deserve for their losses due to two-vehicle collisions.
