Two Individuals Die During Redding Plane Crash

On Thursday, August 27, 2020, a Redding plane crash fatally injured two people and caused another two individuals serious injuries. One of the decedents has been identified as Mike Garrett, the owner of Heavenly Donuts in Redding. The other decedent, as well as the two injured individuals, were not identified but were reported to be adults. An investigation into the cause of this plane crash is ongoing.

Accident Details

Redding Police Department (RPD) reports that this accident happened at about 6:45 a.m. in the area of Benton Airpark on the western side of the city. Garrett and three other people were reportedly on a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza airplane. The accident was reported to RPD by individuals who called in about hearing a nearby explosion or possible collision on the north side of the Airpark.

Responders eventually found the wrecked plane in a field to the north of Placer Street. The airplane had sustained extreme damage, and the collision reportedly ignited a vegetation fire. The fire eventually spread to two acres before local firefighters were able to control it.

Injuries

At the accident scene, medical responders found that all four people on the plane were seriously hurt. Tragically, Garrett and one other occupant passed away on-site. The other two occupants of the plane were transported to the Mercy Medical Center for immediate medical treatment. Updates on their conditions have not been provided.

Investigation

According to RPD, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) would handle the investigation into possible causes of this accident. However, NTSB would reportedly not travel to Redding to investigate but would rely on local officials to gather and report information about the incident. RPD stated that there were “several witnesses” to the accident and that officers would be working in the near future to gather their statements about the crash. Additionally, the FAA stated that they would be releasing the tail number of the involved aircraft as soon as it was verified.

Airplane accidents can be caused by a number of factors, many of which pilots are unable to control. Frequently, issues with defective or malfunctioning airplane parts or other non-pilot factors cause terrible accidents.

Calling an Attorney

Families who have suddenly lost somebody due to a fatal crash often experience very intense grief and may feel totally overwhelmed or even confused about what happened. Recovering emotionally after such a terrible loss can be difficult, and people often need to take time away from work and other responsibilities in order to focus on coping with grief.

However, deadly accidents can also cause serious financial issues for families. Often, families lose access to important services or income that they rely on. To make sure your family is able to financially recover following a fatal accident, it is very important to get in touch with a trustworthy Redding wrongful death lawyer right away. The sooner an attorney can start working on your case, the more effective they can be.
