Woman Killed in Truck Accident

A woman was driving her vehicle near Selma on the afternoon of Monday, October 1, 2017. The woman was involved in a trucking accident with two big rigs. The collision, sadly, caused the woman to suffer fatal injuries.

What Happened?

A woman was driving her Ford F-150 northbound along Highway 99 in the vicinity of Mountain View Avenue at approximately 12:30 pm. The woman was traveling in the middle lane when she switched into the No. 3 lane. The driver of a 2011 Freightliner big rig, identified as 33-year-old Delhi man, allegedly moved into the center lane to attempt to avoid a collision. Evidently, the Freightliner allegedly switched lanes in the direct path of the Ford. The front right side of the big rig collided with the Ford. The impact propelled the Ford into the left rear-end of a 2009 Kenworth big rig, operated by 62-year-old Fresno man.

Was Anybody Injured?

Emergency personnel responded to the scene of the truck accident. Paramedics located the woman in the Ford F-150 and performed life-saving efforts on her. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Officials identified her as 35-year-old Alma Bernice Gordillo Zuniga from Selma.

We would like to extend our sincerest thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Zuniga who passed away in this tragic Fresno truck accident.

What Caused the Truck Accident?

The cause of the truck accident is not yet known due to a pending investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). CHP officials usually take seven to ten calendar days to process a Traffic Collision Report. However, authorities suspect speeding may have played a role in the collision. It is important to note that not all traffic reports are entirely accurate or conclusive pertaining to fault. This may leave the loved ones of a deceased party with many unanswered questions. Contacting an experienced Fresno wrongful death lawyer is vital for protecting the rights of a party that passed away in a big rig collision.

Truck Accident Statistics

According to a 2015 report by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), approximately 415,000 collisions involving large trucks were reported to authorities. Of these incidents, there were 83,000 injury crashes and 3,598 fatal crashes. Sixty percent of all fatal accidents involving large trucks took place along rural roadways and 25 percent on urban or rural Interstate highways. Trucking accidents are complex cases to handle. Such cases require a thorough investigation of reports by experts and documented evidence. For more information, contact an experienced Fresno truck accident lawyer.
