Three People Transported to Trauma Center in Crash Involving Jackknifed Big Rig
According to the Fairfield Fire Department, seven people were injured in the multiple-vehicle crash with three transported to a nearby trauma center for treatment. Several of the lanes have been reported as reopened. The cause of the accident is under investigation by authorities.
Causes of a Jackknifed Big Rig
Whenever the cab’s speed falls below the trailer’s, it can cause a jackknifed big rig. It is possible to jackknife a big rig by incorrectly slowing down using the wrong brakes. This is the type of accident that occurs with truckers who have little experience handling a big rig. A trucker can also lose control of the big rig if he or she performs an emergency maneuver such as avoiding a collision with another vehicle or another car hits it at just the right angle and with sufficient force.
A Jackknife Can Cause Other Types of Accidents
When a jackknifed big rig accident occurs, because the trailer swings around to the side, it can collide with other vehicles, causing injuries to those inside. In addition, the big rig can block most or all of the roadway. In some instances, a jackknifed truck will experience a rollover, which can also involve other vehicles.
Because serious injuries can occur, consulting with a Vacaville truck accident lawyer may be a good idea. The lawyer can determine whether you have a case to file for compensation, which can recover the cost of your medical expenses and other losses.
Big Rig Collision Investigation
If you have been injured in a jackknifed big rig accident, you should speak with a skilled attorney who has dealt with such collisions before. Over the years, we have helped many people recover compensation. The importance of collecting evidence and conducting a thorough investigation cannot be overstated. We send investigators to the site immediately after the accident to collect evidence to support our client’s claims:
- Witnesses are interviewed and the police report is reviewed to ensure its accuracy.
- An accident reconstruction is conducted, which shows how the jackknifed big rig accident happened and can point toward fault.
- A part of the investigation will involve checking maintenance records on the truck and the trucker’s logbook for inaccuracies.
- Whether a company-owned truck has been maintained and whether the driver and employer have experienced previous problems is determined by examining records.
- The investigator will search for videotapes of the accident on traffic surveillance and business cameras.
- Investigations also focus on traffic violations, such as speeding and distracted driving.
Our accident attorneys begin building a case after gathering all the evidence and information. If the settlement doesn’t satisfy the injured client’s needs, they can take their case to court.
