Tow-truck Driver Dies in Woodland Area Accident

On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, a tow-truck driver lost his life in an auto accident that took place just west of the city of Woodland. The driver has since been identified by Yolo County officials as Casey Joel Marston, a 41-year-old man and Woodland resident. According to information from California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, the accident involved two vehicles and is still under active investigation. A GoFundMe page has been established on behalf of Mr. Marston’s family to help cover his final resting expenses.

Crash Information

CHP reported that the accident happened at around 4:00 p.m. on Highway 16. Marston was traveling eastbound on Highway 16. At the same time, a Subaru Crosstrek was stopped on County Road 94B at the Highway 16 intersection. The Subaru reportedly pulled out into the intersection in order to cross the highway heading south. As the Subaru entered the highway, it pulled into the path of the tow-truck.

According to reports, Marston was unable to stop, slow, or turn his vehicle in time to avoid a crash. The tow-truck collided head-on into the left-rear side of the Subaru. CHP stated that, after the impact, the truck continued to travel forward until it drove off the road and into a ditch, overturning and coming to a stop on its roof.

Response

CHP dispatched emergency response teams to the crash scene immediately after receiving a call about the incident. Officials reported that they discovered Marston inside of his vehicle with critical trauma. Tragically, he passed away on site. The Subaru driver, identified as a Davis woman, suffered minor injuries during the accident. Whether or not she was taken to a hospital has not been mentioned in reports. No other individuals were involved.

Investigating a Fatal Accident

Accidents can be complicated and usually involve multiple factors. While police generally try to investigate thoroughly, it can be difficult for them to get a full picture of what happened when drivers aren’t able to tell them their version of events. This is one of the reasons that it’s important to have an attorney conduct their own investigation into the crash.

An experienced and established wrongful death lawyer will be able to focus their investigation on finding out if any form of negligence was involved in the accident and defend your family’s right to be compensated for your losses.

Rollovers and Liability

Vehicle rollovers can have devastating consequences, especially with large vehicles that are weighed down with cargo or heavy equipment. In these cases, the roof of the vehicle is often not strong enough to keep the people inside safe. If a roof or its supports crumple during a crash, it’s liable to cause major injuries that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. In these cases, the manufacturer of the vehicle may be considered financially liable for damages.

Finding a Compassionate Attorney

Looking for an attorney to handle your wrongful death case can seem stressful, especially after you and your family have experienced a traumatic loss. One of the most important aspects of a wrongful death lawyer is whether or not they truly have compassion toward your situation. While many lawyers have different styles when it comes to client relationships, you can make sure that your attorney will handle your case with skill, experience, and care by following the steps outlined in this short video:
