Tip Leads to Hit-and-Run Driver Arrest Near Fresno

I’m Ed Smith, a Fresno car accident lawyer. Authorities recently released a surveillance photograph of a hit-and-run vehicle involved in a fatal pedestrian accident on August 27, 2017. The photograph was released to the public to expedite the search for the suspect motorist. The driver was later detained by officials thanks to an anonymous tip submitted by the community.

Accident Details

A man was driving his 2000 red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck southbound on Blackstone Avenue near Griffith Way at about 9:00 am. The truck was traveling in the right lane when a pedestrian attempted to cross the street. The man was unable to avoid the pedestrian, resulting in a serious collision. Officials reported that the motorist allegedly fled the scene following the pedestrian accident.

Was the Pedestrian Injured?

The pedestrian was identified as a Fresno man in his 20s. The victim, unfortunately, passed away at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to the loved ones of the victim that passed away in this tragic incident.

Anonymous Tip Leads to Arrest

The Fresno Police Department investigated the scene of the pedestrian accident and obtained photographs of the hit-and-run vehicle through video surveillance cameras in the area. The images were then released to the public. An anonymous tip led officials to the location of the vehicle. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and detained the suspect driver for outstanding warrants. Police were able to determine that the man was the driver in the incident after interviewing him. The man, identified as Jonathan Allen, was booked into the Fresno County Jail for outstanding warrants and felony hit-and-run.

Hit-and-Run Accidents in California

Hit-and-run accidents are on the rise throughout the State of California. Such occurrences tend to occur due to a motorist’s lack of insurance or outstanding warrants for their arrest. Another reason a motorist may flee is fear. Fear of being caught driving under the influence. Fear of being caught texting while driving leading to an accident. Motorists are obligated to remain at the scene until emergency personnel or authorities arrive to assess the situation. Failing to do so may result in serious charges, especially if a victim has suffered traumatic or fatal injuries. Consult with an experienced Fresno personal injury lawyer if you have suffered injuries in an accident.
