Teen Seriously Hurt During Orland Area Crash

California Highway Patrol (CHP) authorities reported that three people suffered injuries in a crash outside of Orland on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. According to reports, one of the three injured people, identified as a 14-year-old, was left with serious trauma. The accident involved two vehicles and took place in a rural location Southeast of Orland. The latest reports available stated that the injured 14-year-old was in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Crash Data

Officers said that the crash happened at around 7:15 a.m. A 16-year-old resident of Hamilton City was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang north on County Road V when he stopped at the intersection of County Road 39. After stopping at the intersection, the Mustang continued north and entered the path of an oncoming 2008 BMW driven by a 17-year-old resident of Durham. Police say that the BMW driver applied their brakes while approaching the County Road 39/V intersection and eventually veered right in order to avoid the crash.

Despite the BMW driver’s efforts to avoid the accident, the two vehicles collided. The BMW’s front end struck the right-hand side of the Mustang. The Mustang was knocked off of the road into a nearby irrigation ditch on the northwest side of the intersection. The BMW came to a stop on the western shoulder of County Road V a short distance north of the intersection.

Response

Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the crash site where they found that the passenger of the Mustang was seriously injured. The injured teen was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment. Medics reported that the teenager suffered trauma to his right shoulder.

Both the driver and the passenger of the BMW were found with minor injuries. Reports indicated that the teenage driver suffered trauma to her nose, collarbone, and neck. The 50-year-old passenger had abrasions on her collarbone and neck as well. The driver of the Mustang was reportedly not injured during the collision.

Investigation

Police are currently investigating possible causes of this accident. So far, no suspected factors have been confirmed by authorities. However, officers have stated that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved. Rural accidents involving multiple vehicles can be caused by a variety of factors including dangerous roadway design, lack of proper signage, auto product defects, reckless driving behaviors such as distraction or speeding, and more.

Contacting an Attorney

Injuries can be expensive. Families are often left with steep medical bills after paying for ambulance rides, surgeries, medications, and other expenses related to a traumatic car accident. Many times, people are unsure of how they will be able to pay for these costs. For this reason, those who’ve been injured during an auto accident can often recover payments for their losses through personal injury claims. If you’d like to know more about filing such a claim, it is best to talk to an Orland car accident lawyer personally. To learn more about the process of injury claims before calling, see this video:
