Speeding Causes Vehicle to Crash Into Sacramento House

Speeding may have been responsible for an early morning accident in Sacramento recently that ended with the vehicle crashing into a home and the driver facing charges of DUI. The SUV reportedly hit a speed bump on South Land Park Drive in the vicinity of 13th street. The homeowner, Sandy Khan, said the impact resembled an explosion. She was asleep on a couch close to the garage and was literally thrown off of it. She called 911, and her neighbor, Shawn Flanagan, rushed over to see if he could help. The driver of the SUV was still in the vehicle when Flanagan arrived, and he helped him get out. Neighbors reported that the SUV traveled over a speed bump just across from Khan’s home, slammed into a tree and hit a fence before ending up in her garage. Khan said she had just made repairs on the gate and her garage. In addition to Khan’s property, a neighbor’s tree, which is 18 years old, was destroyed. No one was injured in the home. The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital and received treatment.

Speeders Pose a Continuing Problem

The neighbors said that this is not the first time that speeders were in the area. They reported that people are speeding and subsequent crashes have occurred in the neighborhood. People like Flanagan said he was glad when they installed the speed bumps because he feels that it slows vehicles down. Khan disagrees. She said the area has always had speeders, but she believes the speed bumps have made it worse. The homeowner is going to install a barrier of some sort to keep it from happening again, an idea echoed by her neighbor. From there, the neighbors said they will try to get the city to install a stop sign. Until then, they are pleading with speeders to slow down.

Destroying Property

Damage claims are fairly common and cover a situation where a vehicle damages your property, such as what happened above. So, who pays for the claim. If it is a driver who loses control of their vehicle and slams into your home, gate, or mailbox, their car insurance should cover it. The vehicle owner’s insurance company should pay for the damage. For example, if the driver was driving drunk and speeding and hit someone’s property, several factors are at play. The driver was negligent because he or she was speeding and impaired. This gives you evidence that will support your claim. Since the driver’s car insurance is footing the bill, the homeowner will not be charged a deductible. If the homeowner cannot live in their home until repairs are made or needs to rent a vehicle, the at-fault driver’s insurance will cover these costs. In addition, if the homeowner was injured in any way, the cost of treatment or lost wages are also covered. Injuries in this case can also mean suffering the emotional trauma the accident caused. If the city is negligent for not installing stop signs, a claim can be placed against the government agency in charge of roads.

Speeders and Accidents

Speeding causes a variety of accidents, usually due to loss of control by the driver. The faster a driver is traveling, the easier it is to lose control. In addition, the impact of the speeding vehicle does more damage. So, why do people speed?

  • They are driving drunk and lose the ability to use good judgment.
  • They are impatient and want to arrive on time.
  • They mismanage time.
  • They are distracted and not watching the speed limit.
  • They believe they are above the law, and their recklessness is acceptable.

What an Attorney Can Do For You

At our firm, we dispatch our investigative team to the accident site to look for evidence of negligent driving. This endeavor includes interviewing witnesses, looking for road marks that indicate negligence, and surveying the damages our client sustained. We also use accident reconstruction techniques and obtain videos from traffic surveillance cameras if possible. If property damage is involved, we can help determine the cost of repairing or rebuilding what was lost. Once this information is gathered, we release it to our legal team that will use it to build a strong case for our client.
