Galt Accident Results in Serious Injury on Off-Ramp

A serious injury occurred in Galt on January 18 when a driver collided with a utility pole at around 4:32 in the morning. The accident happened on the Simmerhorn Road entrance ramp off northbound State Route 99, according to the traffic report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Police reported that the collision caused the engine of the Toyota Camry the driver was in to separate from the vehicle. The engine ended up in the slow lane. A tow truck was called to remove the vehicle. It was reported that the utility pole sustained minor damage. Emergency responders transported the patient to a nearby hospital to its trauma unit for further evaluation and treatment for a serious injury. The CHP is investigating the accident to determine how it happened.

Single-Vehicle Crashes

Most single-vehicle accidents are caused by driver negligence. However, there are other ways that an accident can happen that can result in a serious injury. Anyone injured through negligence may place a claim for compensation to pay for their lost wages, medical bills, and other expenses. Some ways in which a single-vehicle accident may not be the fault of the driver include:

  • Poor road maintenance: A government entity that has neglected road maintenance may be held responsible for injuries suffered because of it. Road maintenance issues may include heaved pavement, potholes, poor lighting, missing signage, overhanging limbs that obscure signs, and others. However, it is important to know that the time you have to file a claim against a government entity is much shorter than for other types of personal injuries. Your lawyer will ensure that all paperwork is completed correctly and filed on time.
  • Other drivers: A motorist who is driving drunk, distracted or fatigued can easily cross over the centerline and force another motorist off the road, resulting in a serious injury.
  • Defective auto parts: There are a number of auto parts that can cause a vehicle to crash, resulting in a major injury. These include brakes, the steering wheel, and the accelerator. Your lawyer can check to see if any of these parts were recalled and whether others had experienced problems that led to an accident. In cases such as these, the manufacturer, parts supplier, and others can be held responsible through a product liability lawsuit.

Help From an Attorney

Single-vehicle accidents can cause serious injury, and the insight and investigative prowess a law firm can provide is vital. Our law firm does everything it can to ensure that the injured party receives the compensation they need and deserve. We dispatch our investigators to the accident scene who use accident reconstruction techniques to determine liability. They also question witnesses and obtain videos from traffic cameras and those on nearby commercial buildings and homes. The investigators review police accounts of the accident for errors since these reports are used in both negotiations with the insurance company and in a civil court case. Once all evidence is compiled, our investigators release it to our lawyers, who use it to build a robust case in our client’s favor.
