Four Transported to the Hospital in Serious Traffic Collision

First responders transported four others to the hospital with injuries. The SUVs involved in the crash were totaled. Authorities are investigating the collision to determine which driver/drivers were at fault and how it occurred.

Fatalities and Injuries in a Traffic Collision

Car accidents at or near intersections are some of the most common and dangerous auto collisions. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, two-vehicle intersection crashes account for over one-third of all fatal crashes in the United States. In 2017 alone, there were an estimated 5,705 fatalities due to two-vehicle intersection crashes and another approximately 692,000 injuries. These accidents often occur when two cars meet at an intersection, and one car fails to yield the right-of-way or misjudges the speed of the other vehicle.

Types of Traffic Collisions in an Intersection

The most common types of intersection crashes are T-bone collisions, left-turn and rear-end accidents. T-bone collisions occur when one vehicle moves straight and the other turns left, or vice versa. Left-turn collisions typically happen when a driver turning left fails to properly assess oncoming traffic and misjudges the other car’s speed. Rear-end collisions are caused by drivers who fail to stop in time and run into the car ahead of them.

These crashes can be particularly dangerous due to the increased impact force. In addition, drivers and passengers in the vehicles involved are much more likely to suffer severe injuries than those in a single-vehicle crash.

Personal Injury Compensation After a Traffic Accident

If you or a loved one has been involved in a traffic accident, several types of compensation can be recovered. Depending on the extent of your injuries and any other damage associated with the accident, you may recover the following:

  • Medical expenses: Medical expenses resulting from the accident are typically covered by a personal injury insurance claim. This can include hospital bills, doctor visits, rehabilitation costs and other related medical bills.
  • Lost wages: If you lose wages due to being injured in an accident and unable to work, you may be eligible to receive lost wage compensation.
  • Pain and suffering: Pain and suffering cover any physical or emotional psychological trauma caused by the accident. This can be difficult to calculate but may include things such as lost quality of life and loss of enjoyment in everyday activities.

Filing a Wrongful Death Claim

In California, families who have lost loved ones due to wrongful death are entitled to seek compensation. Wrongful death damages can include both financial and emotional losses, such as the following:

  • Funeral costs
  • Lost wages
  • Loss of companionship
  • Pain and suffering

Generally speaking, two types of people may be eligible to receive wrongful death compensation in California: close family members or dependents of the deceased and the estate of the decedent.
