Fatalities and Injuries Occur in Single-Vehicle Crash on San Juan Road

Two minors and an adult died on May 31 in a single-vehicle crash that also injured eight others. The accident occurred on San Juan Road near Northgate Boulevard between Bridgeford and Binghamton Drives around 8:15 p.m. The Sacramento Police Department reported that the minors involved in the crash were elementary school age or younger.

Eight People, Including One Adult Hospitalized After Accident

The survivors of the single-vehicle crash, an adult and seven minors, suffered serious or critical injuries in the crash. Ten ambulances arrived at the accident scene to transport those injured to hospitals.  Officials have recently identified the decedents as a 7-year-old child, a 3-year-old child, and 25-year-old Rayshawna Armstrong, all residents of Sacramento.

An investigation into the accident is underway by the Sacramento police. A recent update revealed that the driver, a 28-year-old Sacramento woman, was arrested on charges of child endangerment and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. Officials indicated that the driver may face additional charges as they proceed with their investigation into the incident.

Compensation Recovery Following a Single-Vehicle Crash

If you suffered injuries in a traffic accident or lost a family member in a crash, compensation may be available to you or the immediate family. To determine whether someone’s negligence caused your injuries or the death of a loved one, the first step in a personal injury claim is to identify the responsible party. A third party might have contributed to your accident, such as a government entity with negligent roadway maintenance or an automaker that installed a defective part. They may be liable for damages in these cases.

Negligence May Lead to Compensation in Injury or Fatality Accidents

It is generally the at-fault party’s insurance company that settles injury or fatality claims. Your lawyer can gather evidence of negligence on the part of another party in order to file a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit. In addition to witness testimony, surveillance camera footage, police reports, and accident reconstruction, other evidence can support a wrongful death or injury claim. Expenses such as lost wages and medical expenses incurred as a result of the car accident must also be substantiated in a personal injury case.

Wrongful death claims are subject to similar procedures. Either the estate representative or immediate family members (spouse and children) may file. If the decedent was unmarried and had no children, parents or siblings may be able to file a wrongful death claim. A lawyer can calculate the pain and suffering of the family and prove the loss of wages, future earnings, and end-of-life expenses.
