A highway collision along U.S. 50 on March 15 in the fast lane caused at least one injury. The incident happened around 7:47 a.m. along the eastbound side of the freeway just east of the 15th Street off-ramp. A Subaru Ascent and Ford hybrid SUV were involved in the collision, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) report.

Investigation into Highway Collision Determining Fault

Sacramento Fire Department first responders were called to the scene due to at least one complaint of pain. However, no further details were provided. The roadway was cleared of the vehicles around 8:15 a.m., and both were towed from the scene. An investigation is being conducted to determine fault.

What Is a Fast Lane Highway Collision?

A fast lane crash is a type of traffic accident that occurs in the outermost section of the road. This can happen when one or more vehicles travel at high speeds and collide with one another or with a barrier, median or obstacle. Fast lane crashes may be caused by various factors such as driver error (speeding, distracted driving, or being under the influence), poor road conditions, or mechanical failure.

Due to the high speeds involved, fast lane crashes can be particularly dangerous and may result in serious injuries or fatalities. It is essential for drivers to always exercise caution, and be aware of the dangers when traveling in the fast lane.

How Often Do Accidents Happen in the Fast Lane?

The frequency of accidents in the fast lane can vary depending on various factors such as the location, traffic volume and driving conditions. However, studies have shown that the left lane tends to have a higher frequency of accidents than the others on a highway or freeway.

According to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), left-lane accidents make up a significant proportion of total crashes on highways and freeways. The study found that left-lane accidents accounted for 31 percent of all crashes on freeways, even though it is typically used for passing and is not intended for sustained travel. The speed at which drivers travel while in the fast lane is a major factor in a highway collision.

Another study by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) found that the left lane is more likely to be involved in accidents during heavy traffic or congestion, as drivers may be more likely to engage in aggressive or reckless behavior in an attempt to get ahead.

What Should I Do If I Am Injured in a Fast Lane Accident?

If you are injured in a fast lane accident, the first and most important thing you should do is seek medical attention for your injuries. Even if you feel your trauma is minor, it is still important to get checked out by a medical professional as some injuries may not be immediately apparent.

It is essential to gather as much information as possible about the accident, including taking photos of the scene, getting contact information from witnesses and obtaining a copy of the police report. This information can be valuable evidence in any legal proceedings related to the accident.

Avoid speaking with insurance adjusters or other representatives until you have consulted with an attorney. Insurance companies are often looking to settle claims quickly and for as little money as possible and may use any statements you make against you in negotiations or legal proceedings.

Do I Need a Lawyer After a Fast Lane Highway Collision?

After seeking medical attention, you should also consider contacting an experienced personal injury lawyer who can answer your questions. A lawyer can help you understand your rights and options for seeking compensation for your injuries, including medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.
