An Accident Lawyer Can Help

An experienced car accident lawyer can help you get compensation after suffering injuries in a two-vehicle accident if the other driver was negligent. Once the accident has been investigated by your lawyer, they will develop a strong case for negotiation with the insurer or take the case to court if necessary. Among the types of damages that can be recovered are:

  • Medical: You can claim medical expenses incurred as a result of sustaining crash injuries, from hospitalization and ambulance fees to doctor’s bills and rehabilitation costs. In the event that ongoing injuries exist, they can be included in the settlement. You can also recover compensation for out-of-pocket expenses, including gasoline and parking to visit your doctor and other relevant losses.
  • Wages: As a result of their incapacity to work, the injured party can claim their lost wages. In addition to their compensation package, they will also receive bonuses, tips, and benefits such as insurance and pensions. The injured party can also be compensated for the difference in pay if they need to take a lower-paying job. A person’s wages until retirement age and other benefits of their job will be included in the settlement if they become permanently disabled and cannot work.
  • Pain and suffering: Injured people can recover damages for their pain and suffering. This category includes emotional and psychological pain, which is common following a collision. Many people suffer from depression, anxiety, nightmares, and other emotional symptoms following an accident. Others develop post-traumatic stress disorder, which has to be professionally treated. The cost of that treatment is recoverable also.
  • Punitive damages: In some instances where the cause of the crash was egregious negligence, such as drunk driving or intentionality, the injured party may ask to be awarded punitive damages. This award is made in addition to compensatory damages.
