Sacramento Collision Death

Sacramento Collision Death – A suspect has been taken into custody following a recent Sacramento collision death involving an 18-year-old city resident. Following the collision, Avanesh Mal, age 32, fled the scene of the September 14 accident, even though the other man’s vehicle had become engulfed in flames. The suspect, according to the Sacramento Police Department, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and was booked at the main jail in Sacramento County on September 15. I would like to extend my prayers and sympathy to the family and friends of the young man who lost his life in this tragedy with the hope that they may find solace.

Further Details of the Sacramento Collision Death

The individual who died in the collision has been identified as Alejandro Gonzalez-Santana, who was a recent high school graduate. The accident occurred at about 4:15 in the afternoon at Freeport Boulevard and McAllister Avenue. An officer was nearby when the call came in and when he arrived, he saw that the vehicle carrying Gonzalez was already engulfed in flames, and he was unable to try and remove the young man from the vehicle. Gonzalez, nicknamed Jando, had entered college at Sacramento State and was intending to major in criminal justice.

Recoverable Damages in a Sacramento Collision Death

Damages that can be claimed in an accident caused by another individual or entity that was negligent and caused the death of a loved one include:

  • Loss of income provided by the decedent in a wrongful death lawsuit can be recovered. This is calculated on the individual’s age, salary at a job, schooling and other criteria. It is based on what the person would have earned in their lifetime had they lived.
  • Funeral and burial expenses will be reimbursed in a Sacramento collision death.
  • Loss of inheritance, which is the amount of money the decedent would have contributed to the estate and would have been inherited by his or her beneficiaries is recoverable.
  • Loss of insurance, pension, contributions to an IRA and other monies that would have benefitted the family had the decedent lived can be compensated.
  • Loss of consortium, if the decedent had a spouse or domestic partner, is a part of recoverable damages.
  • Loss of guidance, companionship, protection and care of other family members can be assigned a monetary value.
  • Financial loss of services provided by that family member, including work around the house, taking care of the car, bill paying, etc. is generally included in the lawsuit.

Filling a Survival Action

A survival action is sometimes filed along with wrongful death if the decedent lived for a time before expiring. An experienced wrongful death lawyer can advise on whether it is a good idea to file this type of action or waive it. Compensation under a survival action in a Sacramento collision death can include:

  • Medical expenses such as ambulance costs, physicians’ bills, hospitalization, medication and other costs that were incurred before the decedent expired
  • Pain and suffering by the decedent before their death
