Although the rate of fatalities on rural roads is much higher than in urban areas nearly everywhere — more than 4 times higher nationwide and about 7.5 times higher statewide — in the SACOG region, the figure for rural accident fatalities in 2006 was about 20 times higher, and in Sacramento County specifically was nearly 60 times greater.
