Redding Area DUI Kills Shasta County Resident

California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports stated that a fatal car accident occurred near Redding on Sunday, December 9, 2018. The accident reportedly happened during the early morning in the community of Cottonwood and left one man with fatal trauma. Officers reported that they suspect the auto accident to have been caused by a drunk driver and have arrested the suspected individual. The fatally injured driver was identified only as a 59-year-old man from the nearby town of Whitmore. Shasta County Officials say they will release the man’s identity after notifying his family. My support and sincere condolences are extended to those who are mourning the loss of their loved one following this terrible incident.

Crash Information

CHP stated that the collision took place just outside of Highway Interstate 5 at about 2:55 a.m. A 22-year-old man from Fresno had been driving a 2012 Mazda on the southbound side of the highway when he exited the freeway to enter South Main Street in Cottonwood. CHP reported that the Fresno man’s vehicle was traveling at high speeds and crashed into the rear-end of a Toyota pickup. The impact caused the pickup driver to lose control of his vehicle, which veered off of the roadway before striking a guardrail and fence. The pickup driver reportedly may not have been restrained in his car. Sadly, he was ejected through a window during the crash.

Response

Responders were immediately dispatched to the location of the accident. When they arrived, they discovered that the Whitmore man had suffered severe injuries. Tragically, medics were not able to treat his injuries and the man lost his life before he could be put on an ambulance. The driver of the Mazda was reported to have suffered minor injuries which were treated on-scene.

Police arrested the Mazda driver on charges related to driving under the influence leading to fatal injuries. The man remains in custody at the Shasta County Jail.

Wrongful Death Cases

Many people who lose a loved one in a car wreck are left with both serious emotional and financial difficulties. Not only does the loss of a person you love mean dealing with intense emotions, but it can also mean losing an income earner in your family.  This often leaves families unable to pay their bills. All of this can be quite overwhelming. Grief on top of the mounting medical or burial costs can leave a loved one wondering where to turn for help. Calling a Redding wrongful death lawyer as soon as you can is a vital part of claiming the payments you deserve from the responsible party while you work through the emotional losses of losing your loved one. No amount of money can bring your loved one back. However, the negligent person who caused the accident can be held liable for the financial costs incurred as a result of their careless actions.

Most lawyers will give you a free phone consultation where you can get valuable information about your case. Many attorneys take cases on a contingency fee basis where you pay no fees up front.
