Police Investigating Fatal Fairfield Hit-and-Run

One man received fatal injuries when he was hit by a vehicle in Fairfield during the morning of Thursday, January 10, 2019. Officers of Fairfield Police Department (FPD) have said that the driver of a vehicle involved in the fatal incident drove away from the accident scene and are reportedly asking for public assistance with finding the missing driver. The fatally injured man was identified shortly after the collision as Ricky Acosta, a 39-year-old man from the state of Arizona.

I would like to express my sympathy and offer my support to Acosta’s family and friends as they mourn their loss after this terrible incident.

Crash Details

Police first received calls reporting that a man was lying in the road at around 6:39 a.m. Callers reported that a man was lying down in the street on East Travis Boulevard close to the Chamberlain Drive intersection. When officials arrived at the scene, they found Acosta lying partially in the road and on the sidewalk and determined that the man had been struck by a passing vehicle. Acosta’s injuries were severe and tragically, medics could not help him recover. He was sadly declared deceased at about 6:50 a.m. at the scene of the crash.

Investigation

The area of East Travis Boulevard where the accident took place was closed to traffic for several hours on Thursday while the Fairfield Police Major Accident Investigations Team (MAIT) surveyed the crime scene for evidence and conducted investigations. However, investigators say that they do not know much about the driver or vehicle involved in the crash and have asked members of the public to help them with their investigation. Anybody who has information about the crash or thinks they may know anything about the involved driver has been asked to contact FPD’s traffic division by calling (707) 428-7300.

Hit-and-Run and Recovery

After a hit-and-run accident, families often don’t know what to do. Because there is no driver to hold responsible for the crash, people sometimes fear they won’t be able to recover for their damages. However, this shouldn’t stop you from contacting the authorities or seeking advice from an attorney. In many cases, hit-and-run drivers are found days, weeks, or even months after a crash happens and even if the driver is never found, people still often have options for recovery.

When there isn’t a negligent driver to hold accountable, wrongful death damages can be claimed through uninsured/underinsured motorist policies depending on the details of your case and your specific policy. These policies are an optional part of insurance coverage and not all policies will pay the same amount. To make it even more difficult, insurance companies aren’t always easy to work with and will sometimes make low-ball offers. Dealing with these things can be stressful, especially after suffering the emotional effects of a serious accident. However, an experienced Fairfield wrongful death lawyer will be able to deal with your claim for you and make sure that you receive the payments you need to recover for your losses.
