How Entrapment Between Two Vehicles Can Occur

There are a number of situations that can result in being trapped between two vehicles or compartment syndrome. It essentially means that a person or vehicle becomes stuck between two cars, trucks or against a wall because of driver error or an external factor. A pedestrian entrapment injury can be extremely dangerous and even life-threatening, causing them to become crushed or suffer other major trauma. If this happens to you, you may be able to recover compensation for your trauma with the help of an injury lawyer.

  • Rear-end crashes: Vehicle entrapment can happen as a result of rear-end collisions. An accident takes place when the driver fails to maintain a safe following distance and collides with the car ahead. As a result of the impact, the vehicle in front of you can be forced forward and trap any vehicles behind it. A chain reaction involving multiple cars can cause severe damage and lead to entrapment in worst-case scenarios.
  • Merging: A merging accident occurs when one of the vehicles fails to yield or merges too early when two vehicles are entering the same lane. The merging vehicle can be trapped between the two, resulting in a collision.
  • Parking lots: There is the possibility of entrapment between two vehicles in parking lots. This can happen when a driver is trying to park in a tight space and accidentally turns too sharply, entrapping someone else who’s just gotten out of their car.
  • Construction sites: The construction zone can cause drivers confusion as the lanes can be narrow and sudden lane changes are required. Drivers can become entrapped in these situations if they aren’t paying attention or make a mistake while maneuvering.

Here are some tips to avoid being entrapped between two vehicles:

  • Following a car at a safe distance is always a good idea.
  • Whenever merging or changing lanes, be sure to use your turn signals properly and be aware of your blind spots.
  • Taking your time and being aware of the space around you are important when parking to avoid causing a pedestrian entrapment injury.
  • Following all directions and signs in construction zones is extremely important.
