Oroville Highway Crash Causes Deadly Injuries

On Thursday, February 11, 2021, two people suffered fatal injuries during an Oroville highway crash. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision happened in the evening and was between two different passenger vehicles. The number of people injured during the accident has not yet been confirmed, and neither of the decedents have been identified by officials of Butte County. Additionally, the collision remains under investigation.

Collision Details

The accident happened at around 5:07 p.m. on Highway 70, close to Ophir Road. According to responding officers, the accident happened on the northbound side of the highway where, for unknown reasons, two vehicles crashed into each other, resulting in major damages. CHP traffic reports indicated that wreckage was blocking the number two lane of the highway following the incident. No further details about what took place have been provided so far.

Response

Police were dispatched to the scene immediately and reportedly arrived at around 5:33 p.m. Responders arriving at the site found that two people had sustained major injuries. Tragically, both injured parties had been declared deceased as of 10:30 p.m. No other injuries in relation to the crash were reported.

Investigation

As officers of CHP continue with their investigation into possible factors involved in this accident, investigators haven’t reported any suspected causes. Double-vehicle accidents frequently involve more than one cause and, in many cases, happen because of things that neither driver is able to control. Often, crashes happen because of a seriously damaged portion of highway or a malfunctioning car part. In these situations, non-driver parties like governments or auto manufacturers may share financial responsibility for the incident.

Conducting Private Accident Investigations

Police faced with the challenge of investigating a deadly accident have a difficult job to do and, without being able to interview the decedent(s) about what took place, officers might never fully understand what caused the crash. Sadly, if relevant evidence is never uncovered, families may not be able to obtain the payments that they deserve from at-fault parties. To make sure this doesn’t happen, it’s important to call an experienced Oroville wrongful death lawyer as soon as you can. An expert lawyer can privately investigate the incident in order to protect your family’s right to compensation.
