A major injury pedestrian accident was reported in Orangevale on September 7. The accident occurred at the intersection of Oak and Filbert avenues near the Casa Roble Fundamental High School around 3:54 p.m. The incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that a Mercedes sedan struck the juvenile pedestrian, blocking the lanes. The intersection in question is equipped with traffic lights and crosswalks.

Injured Juvenile Transported to Hospital Following Pedestrian Accident

The incident was transferred to the Sacramento Fire Department, where medics determined the juvenile had suffered a major injury. Medics transported the injured pedestrian to a nearby hospital for treatment and additional evaluation. An investigation is underway by the CHP to find out how the accident occurred.

What Causes Most Pedestrian Accidents?

There are many potential causes of pedestrian accidents, resulting in major injury. Some of the most common include:

  • Speeding drivers: Speeding is a major factor in pedestrian accidents. When drivers speed, they have less time to react to pedestrians in their path, and the resulting impact is often much more severe.
  • Distracted driving: Distracted driving such as texting or talking on the phone is another major cause of pedestrian accidents. Drivers who are not paying attention to the road are more likely to hit pedestrians, especially if they are crossing in an unmarked crosswalk or are otherwise difficult to see.
  • Intoxicated driving: Drunk or impaired drivers are often the cause of pedestrian accidents. These drivers have slower reflexes and are more likely to make poor decisions.
  • Aggressive driving: Drivers who are angry or aggressive are also more likely to cause pedestrian accidents with a major injury. These drivers may speed or make sudden turns without looking, both of which can put pedestrians in danger.

How Intersections Are Involved in Pedestrian Accidents

Intersections are one of the most dangerous places for pedestrians. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 50,000 pedestrians are hit by vehicles each year at intersections, and this number is increasing.

There are many reasons why intersections are so dangerous for pedestrians. One reason is that there are often multiple lanes of traffic going in different directions, which makes it more likely that a pedestrian will be hit by a vehicle, causing a major injury.

Another reason is that drivers often fail to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians at intersections. This can be due to distraction, impatience or simply not seeing the pedestrian.

Finally, intersections are often busy places with a lot of traffic. This makes it more difficult for drivers to see pedestrians and also makes it more likely that walkers will be hit by a vehicle if they are crossing the street.

How to Avoid a Pedestrian Accident in an Intersection

The best way to avoid being hit by a vehicle at an intersection is to be cautious and attentive. Make sure to look both ways before crossing the street, and don’t assume that a driver will yield the right-of-way to you.

If you are crossing the street in a crosswalk, make sure to do so quickly and efficiently. Don’t dawdle or wander into the street, as this increases your chances of being hit by a vehicle.

If you are walking at night, make sure to wear reflective clothing so that drivers can see you, and always cross at marked crosswalks or intersections whenever possible. By following these simple tips, you can help to keep yourself safe at intersections.

Liability in a Pedestrian Accident

If you have been hit by a car while walking, you may be wondering if the driver will be held liable for a major injury. Sometimes, the driver may be held fully responsible for the accident and your injuries if they were negligent.

To help you better understand liability in a pedestrian accident, it is essential to know the different types that can occur. The most common type of pedestrian accident is when a driver fails to yield the right of way to a walker who is crossing the street. This can happen at an intersection or in a crosswalk. If you were hit by a car while crossing the street, the driver might be held liable for your injuries since they are obligated to give a pedestrian the right of way.

Another common type of pedestrian accident is when a driver hits a pedestrian who is walking along the side of the road. This can happen if the driver is not paying attention and fails to see the pedestrian in time. In this case, the pedestrian may have a claim against the driver for negligence and damages in their major injury.

If you have been hit by a car while walking, it is important to seek legal assistance as soon as possible. An experienced pedestrian accident lawyer will be able to assess your case and advise you on the best course of action. They can also help you recover damages for your injuries, such as medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.
