One Killed After Rollover Accident in Pittsburg

The Pittsburg Police Department (Pittsburg PD) reported that one person was killed, and two others were critically injured after a rollover accident on July 21, 2020. The car crash occurred at Buchanan Road and Railroad Avenue in the city of Pittsburg. The rollover left one car overturned in a yard, and the other vehicle flipped over on Railroad Avenue. The car accident prompted the closure of the intersection as three American Medical Response (AMR) units were requested along with three fire units. Three parties were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Sadly, one of the three patients succumbed to their injuries during hospitalization. Their identity has been withheld by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office due to pending notification of family members.

What are the Most Common Causes of a Pittsburg Rollover Accident?

People who are injured in rollover accidents should understand what causes them, as every rollover may involve more than one negligent party in a personal injury lawsuit. Some of the common causes of rollover accidents include:

  • Negligent Driving: Rollover accidents are often caused by the negligent actions of another driver. They are particularly common when one vehicle crashes into the side of another car at an angle. This type of motor vehicle accident may propel the vehicle that was struck and cause it to overturn. These situations are common at intersections.
  • Tripping: A rollover collision may happen when the tires of a car strike an object, also known as tripping, causing it to overturn. These are particularly common at higher speeds. It may lead to a personal injury claim against a government entity if it resulted from poor roadway design or maintenance.
  • Vehicle Defects: Specific defects in a motor vehicle may lead to an increased risk of a rollover accident. For instance, a defective tire may lead to a blowout, and at high speeds, a rollover may occur. An automaker may be held liable through an auto products liability claim if the rollover was unavoidable except for a defect in the vehicle. Conversely, a vehicle manufacturer may also be held financially accountable if the car fails to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 216 on roof crush resistance, which states that the vehicle must be able to withstand at least 1.5 times its weight. Keep in mind that the car in question must be preserved and examined by an experienced injury lawyer for any potential defects to determine whether the injured person has a viable case.

What Can Be Recovered in a Personal Injury Case?

The damages available in a personal injury lawsuit include economic and non-economic damages. Economic damages are calculable, and evidence can be used to determine their exact value. On the other hand, non-economic damages are theoretical and challenging to place a value on. The most common types of damages sought in a personal injury case include medical expenses, lost income, permanent disability, and pain and suffering. These cases are generally brought against the other driver’s insurance company. In others, they may be brought against a government entity for a road defect or an automaker for a defective vehicle. While a personal injury claim may be the best chance for recovery of injuries and losses incurred, it is critical to know that results are not guaranteed if you decide to handle your case on your own. With the assistance of an experienced Pittsburg personal injury attorney, you can rest assured knowing your case is in good hands, and your lawyer will work diligently to recover the full and fair financial compensation to which you are entitled.
