One Injured in Chico Area Truck Accident

One Injured in Chico Area Truck Accident

According to reports from California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, one individual suffered serious injuries during a collision that took place near Glenn County outside of Chico on Sunday, September 1, 2019. The collision involved a passenger vehicle as well as a large big-rig. The truck accident also reportedly caused a chemical spill that prompted a roadway shutdown. Hospital staff have reported that the injured individual is expected to live and was in stable condition on Sunday evening.

Crash Details

The accident took place at about 10:30 a.m. to the west of the small city of Hamilton. The large truck was traveling north on County Road 5 toward the intersection at County Road 16. At the same time, a grey Honda was driving west toward the same intersection using County Road 16. When the two vehicles reached the intersection, the Honda reportedly could not stop quickly enough and collided with the truck.

A local fire official told reporters that the crash caused the truck to leak a large amount of fuel. He indicated that his department controlled the leak by putting absorbent material and successfully prevented the chemicals from leaking into any nearby waterways.

Injuries

Medical response teams were sent to the crash site right away. When they arrived, they found that the truck driver had not received any injuries. The driver of the Honda was found with unspecified serious trauma and transported by ambulance to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.

Trucking Accidents

Commercial trucks are typically the largest vehicles on the road and their massive size can make even low-speed accidents very dangerous. People who are involved in accidents that involve tractor-trailers are often left with injuries that seriously affect their lives and are costly to recover from.

In many cases, trucking companies can be held liable for the injuries and other damages sustained in a crash. However, these companies are well aware of their potential liability and are usually ready to start defending themselves right away after a crash takes place. Often, companies will even send out a private team to an accident site to take their own statements from witnesses and collect evidence at the scene.

These defensive actions can make it much harder to recover the money you need for surgeries, hospital stays, ambulances, lost income, and other important damages. This is why it is important to get in touch with a local personal injury lawyer as soon as you can after being hurt in an accident. A good lawyer will be able to investigate your case, negotiate with liable parties and insurers, and, if necessary, argue in court in order to make sure you can recover both personally and financially after a traumatic crash.
