Driver Injured After Hit and Run Truck Accident in Fresno

One Injured After Fresno Hit and Run Truck Accident

Local authorities are investigating a hit and run truck accident that left one party injured in southwest Fresno, CA, on the morning of May 14, 2020. The incident occurred at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Central Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. The Fresno Police Department (Fresno PD) said a driver of a pickup truck was headed southbound on Orange Ave when a big rig reportedly pulled out in front of their vehicle. The driver of the pickup was not able to brake in time and collided with the rear of the tractor-trailer. The driver of the semi-truck allegedly did not stop after the truck accident. The pickup truck driver was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Officials said that they are in the process of tracking down the truck driver involved in the accident, and no further details have yet been disclosed.

Common Issues Involved in Truck Accidents

While people injured in truck accidents have the same right to compensation as victims of car accidents, they may face additional challenges and issues. These include:

  • Increased Risk of Catastrophic Injuries: Large commercial trucks are overwhelming in size and weight in comparison to passenger vehicles. This makes them much more likely to cause traumatic injuries or even death in motor vehicle collisions. When people are involved in truck accidents, they may face the increased risk of serious injuries requiring long-term treatment. This can result in extended recovery periods, physical impairment, or even permanent disability. The need for fair financial compensation is often elevated in these types of cases.
  • Commercial Truck Insurance Companies: Large trucks used by companies for commercial purposes often place profits above the safety of others. This includes people injured on the road by their truck drivers and fleet. As such, trucking firms and their insurance companies will often devote several resources toward disputing any personal injury claim. This is their way of paying people injured by their insured’s negligence less than what they deserve.
  • Commercial Truck Regulations: Large commercial trucks are subject to many state and federal laws due to their risk to public safety. This includes regulations for employee screening, training, loading and securement of cargo, and hours-of-services rules, which restrict the amount of hours truck drivers can be behind the wheel, and more. Such regulations depend on the industry and types of materials that are being transported. When seeking compensation for truck accident lawsuits, injured people should work with experienced Fresno truck accident lawyers who have the resources to conduct independent investigations and collect evidence to prove negligence on the part of the truck driver and the trucking company.
