One Critically Injured After Eureka Pedestrian Accident

One person suffered severe trauma as the result of a Eureka pedestrian collision that happened on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. The collision was reported by the Eureka Police Department (EPD), who stated that it took place in the morning on the northern edge of the city. Police identified the pedestrian as a 45-year-old man, and the latest reports from hospital officials indicated that he was in critical condition. The crash is under investigation.

Crash Details

Police were first called about the accident at around 6:23 a.m. by a witness who reported the crash happened at the intersection of S Street and northbound Highway 101. According to preliminary investigations, EPD has reported that they believe the pedestrian was crossing the street with a stroller filled with various possessions when he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was being driven by a 79-year-old man.

Response

EPD dispatch rushed response personnel out to the area as soon as they received the call about the crash. Responders reportedly found the pedestrian lying in the roadway and determined that he was seriously hurt. The man was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance for emergency medical treatment. Whether or not he was transferred to a regional hospital hasn’t been reported. No other individuals sustained injuries during the incident.

Investigation

EPD states that the driver stopped at the site and cooperated with investigating officials. Police reportedly conducted evaluations to determine whether or not the driver was under the influence and have stated that they do not suspect him to have been impaired in any way.

As police continue to attempt to find out the cause of this traumatic event, officers have asked for public help with their investigation. Anybody who witnessed the crash or has relevant information about the incident is urged to contact the EPD traffic division at (707) 441-4044.

Frequently, pedestrian-involved auto accidents happen due to one or more factors that neither the pedestrian nor driver has the ability to control. For example, the roadway may have had inadequate pedestrian protections, or the involved vehicle may have had defective brakes, tires, or other parts.

Calling an Attorney

Suffering injuries during a pedestrian crash can be life-changing. Not only is recovering from critical crash injuries physically painful and mentally stressful, but it’s also often highly expensive, and pedestrians frequently need to pay for multiple surgeries as well as other costly medical treatments. Sadly, injured parties may have a hard time affording the care they need, especially when their injuries have made it hard for them to earn an income.

These issues can feel overwhelming, but it is possible to reach out for help. A Eureka pedestrian accident lawyer can give you advice about the compensation you can obtain through filing a personal injury claim and, often, injured individuals are able to claim payments that fully cover their medical expenses, lost wages, and more.
