Compensation Recovery Following an Injury Accident in Rancho Cordova

Those who have been harmed by negligence may be able to seek compensation from the responsible party. Your medical expenses, including ambulance, hospitalization, physicians’ bills, medication, and rehabilitative costs, are recoverable. If your injuries suffered in your accident in Rancho Cordova are ongoing, your lawyer can calculate your future expenses and include them in your compensation. Lost wages can also include:

  • Compensation for your pension, insurance benefits, and other perks you received on the job.
  • The salary difference is recoverable if you take a job that pays less because you can no longer perform your previous work.
  • If permanent disability occurs due to your accident in Rancho Cordova and you can no longer work, you can recover your wages up until your retirement age.

Recovering Pain and Suffering Compensation

When someone is injured in an accident, they often experience pain and suffering while being treated and recovering. Compensation is available for the physical trauma they experienced. In addition, the injured frequently suffer emotional trauma because of the accident. This may result in attacks of anxiety, depression, loss of sleep, or even a fear of going outdoors or riding in an auto again. Some patients develop post-traumatic stress disorder, which requires professional treatment. The cost of this treatment is recoverable also.

Injured Parties Who Place a Claim Often Recover More With an Attorney’s Help

While injured parties may be able to work out compensation with their own insurance company, an injury lawyer usually gets clients two to three times as much compensation as they would handle the claim themselves. An injured party can benefit from a free initial consultation during which their case can be reviewed and options for recovering damages discussed.

Other Circumstances That Can Affect Accident Compensation

Punitive damages may sometimes be awarded if a claim goes to trial. Punitive damages are not the same type of compensation as in a personal injury claim. They are awarded in addition to the other damages to punish the egregiously negligent driver. If the driver was impaired and caused the collision, you should ask your lawyer whether you would be entitled to ask for punitive damages.
