Multi-Car Crash Creates Traffic Jam on Highway 4

I’m Ed Smith, a Pittsburg Personal Injury Lawyer. There was a traffic delay on Highway 4 on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, which was caused by a catastrophic automobile accident involving up to six cars. More details of this Highway 4 accident can be found below.

Six Cars Collided Into Each Other

The auto accident took place just shortly after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The six-car wreck occurred right around the westbound direction of the Loveridge Road exit, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Thankfully, not a single person involved had received major injuries. Furthermore, no hospitalizations were required for those occupying the cars that were hit.

Following the accident, CHP officers did issue a Sig Alert at approximately 8:15 a.m., warning the public of the acute traffic delay. The car crash ended up blocking four lanes on Highway 4. Traffic was forced to come to a halt as only the far left lane was open for travel. Roughly an hour later, the scene of the crash was cleared.

The Dangers of Early Morning Drives

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has concluded that each year, automobile accidents cause the death of more than 40,000 people in the United States. Car accidents are the top cause of death for people in the age group of 1-34.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re looking at car accident statistics from the NHTSA, the AAA’s Foundation for Traffic Safety, or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), because their data will all agree on one thing: the time of day has a significant role in determining the likelihood of a car accident. Some examples of dangerous factors during early morning driving include speeding, drunk driving, drowsy driving, and reckless driving.

Important Facts about Daytime Car Crashes

Reports from the NHTSA show that speeding plays a role in 30% of all U.S. fatal crashes. Of the fatal accidents that occur in the daytime, roughly 1 out of 5 are alcohol-related. In 2006, 57% of people who died in car accidents in the daytime were not wearing seat belts, a reckless and dangerous habit among drivers.

Nationwide, 51% of fatal car-wrecks take place in the daytime, although the daytime fatality rate is much lower than nighttime accidents. On average, late night auto accidents have a fatality rate almost triple the rate of morning accidents.
