Motorcyclist Sustains Serious Injuries in Arcata Collision

Motorcyclist Sustains Major Trauma in Arcata Collision

On Tuesday, March 30, 2021, a motorcyclist was severely injured during an Arcata collision. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) states that the accident occurred in the early afternoon on the northern side of the city and involved just a single-vehicle. According to police, the cause of the accident is still being investigated. Additionally, updates on the condition of the injured motorcyclist haven’t been reported.

Crash Information

CHP states that the crash happened at about 12:22 p.m. on Highway 299, just east of the Highway 101 junction near Valley West Park. A large touring-style motorcycle was traveling westbound on the highway when, for reasons that are not currently understood, the motorcyclist apparently lost control of his bike. As a result, the motorcycle veered to the right and exited the highway. After driving off 299, the motorcycle crashed into an embankment off the southern highway shoulder.

Response

Witnesses called the accident in to CHP and dispatchers ordered a response team to the site. At the location of the crash, emergency officials found that the motorcyclist had suffered severe trauma and had him placed on an ambulance and driven to the St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka for immediate medical treatment. Details regarding the nature of his injuries were not provided. Additionally, no other people were reported to have been involved in this accident.

Investigation

While a CHP accident investigation is ongoing, police haven’t released any information about factors they suspect could have played a role in this crash. While single-vehicle motorcycle accidents might seem simple, they are frequently complicated events and involve a number of contributing factors.

Often, motorcycle accidents happen due to factors that aren’t things the motorcyclist can control. For instance, if a motorcycle has faulty brakes or steering systems, the rider might not be able to avoid a serious crash. In other cases, major pavement damage or missing signage might put the motorcyclist in a dangerous situation that results in an accident.

Motorcyclist Injuries

Even though motorcyclists wear helmets, heavy gloves, and armored clothing, they are still much more vulnerable than vehicle occupants and often sustain life-changing injuries during accidents. Recovering from a motorcycle accident injury is often a long, painful process, and it can take months or years to fully regain your health.

Furthermore, medical care is expensive and injured motorcyclists may need costly surgeries, long-term hospital stays, physical therapy sessions, and more. Paying for these can be a challenge, especially if you’ve lost income because of your injuries.

Motorcyclists faced with this situation can feel overwhelmed, but it is possible to contact an Arcata motorcycle accident attorney for help. Through pursuing a personal injury claim after a serious accident, many are able to obtain full compensation for the damages they’ve suffered.
