Accident on Foothills Boulevard Causes Serious Injuries in Overpass Crash

A motorcycle accident in Roseville left the rider with life-threatening injuries on March 4 following a collision with a car. Officers with the Roseville Police Department reported that the accident happened at about 3:30 in the afternoon along Foothills Boulevard at the overpass. The vehicle driver remained at the accident scene and was cooperating with the investigators.

Details of the Motorcycle Accident

Investigators into the crash reported that the motorcycle was proceeding north along Foothills Boulevard and crashed with the car, which was going in the same direction. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and was transported to a nearby hospital with what were described as critical injuries. Foothills Boulevard was shut down to traffic going in both directions due to the serious motorcycle accident. Motorists were advised to avoid the area until the roadway was reopened.

Causes of Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists are vulnerable to serious injuries because of their lack of protection. Many injuries are caused each year by a collision with a motor vehicle. However, the rider may place a claim for fair compensation if the fault lies with the other motorist. Some reasons a motorcycle accident happens include:

  • The vehicle driver stops short: When a motorist suddenly slows down or stops, it can cause the motorcyclist to strike the back of the vehicle. This type of accident often ejects the rider, resulting in serious injuries.
  • Turning in front of a motorcyclist: This is the most common cause of a motorcycle accident. In some cases, the motorist thinks they have enough time to make the turn before the motorcyclist reaches it. However, it is extremely difficult to judge the speed of another vehicle coming toward you. In other cases, the driver assumes the motorcyclist can slow down to avoid a collision.
  • The motorist backs out of a driveway without looking: This common cause of a motorcycle accident is negligent because a driver is expected to ensure the way is clear before backing out.
  • Lane-splitting: Although lane-splitting is legal in California, it can be dangerous. A motorist who proceeds to change lanes without checking their blind spot for a rider can end up causing a serious motorcycle accident.

How a Lawyer Helps

Whenever someone is injured due to the negligent actions of a motorist or other entity, they may place a claim for compensation. This can pay for all of their medical costs, the wages they lost from being unable to work, and compensate them for their pain and suffering. A personal injury attorney knows how to collect the evidence needed to support their claim. By being paid by the negligent party for their injuries, the injured motorcyclist can focus on healing without worrying about how they will pay their bills.

Investigating a Motorcycle Accident

An investigation into a motorcycle collision is much the same as it is for any other type of traffic accident. Investigators are sent to the accident scene and perform the following, among others:

  • The motorcycle is examined for defects. If they are found and caused the accident, a product liability claim can be placed against the manufacturer.
  • Area surveillance cameras are examined to see if the motorcycle accident was captured on film.
  • The police report is checked for errors, and witnesses are interviewed.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which can show fault.
  • Signs of government negligence are looked for, such as malfunctioning lights, obscured signage, and potholes. In cases such as these, the government entity may be held liable for injuries in an accident.
