State Route 89 Collision Causes Major Injury

A big rig and full-size van were involved in a collision east of Redding on June 22 that caused a major injury. The crash happened around 11:16 a.m. along the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway just north of Bridge Campground. The big rig, a Kenworth with a 53-foot-long empty trailer, was blocking traffic as California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded.

The van had exited the roadway and rolled over, coming to a rest about 5 feet off to the side. Tows were called to remove the vehicles. A serious injury was reported and that individual was transported to a hospital. The incident is under review by CHP traffic crash investigators to find out what happened.

Accidents Can Be Caused by Negligent Truck Drivers

A truck driver is a professional and certified individual who operates large, powerful commercial vehicles. Although semi-drivers take the time to prepare, they can still make errors that lead to serious crashes. Here are some behaviors that may indicate that a truck driver is negligent:

  • Maintenance and repair of the big rig are inadequate and regulations are not enforced
  • Not taking into account other drivers’ actions or signals
  • Blind spots aren’t checked before changing lanes
  • The speed limit is exceeded or the conditions are not suitable for driving at that speed
  • Operation of a truck while impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • Being distracted while driving by texting, daydreaming or changing the radio station

The Role of Trucking Companies in Accidents

When a major injury accident occurs, it is important to identify the responsible party. It is possible in some cases for a truck driver to be held primarily responsible for their own negligence. The trucking company may also be held negligent in some cases. These situations might include the following:

  • As a result of negligent hiring practices, an unqualified or inexperienced driver was hired.
  • There was a lack of visibility due to improper cargo security and shifting.
  • The truck was not maintained according to safety standards.
  • Drivers were not properly trained or certified.
  • Due to overloading, the vehicle had stability issues or other problems.
  • The working conditions at the company were unsafe.

An accident caused by a trucking company’s negligence may result in compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages. The injured party should contact an experienced trucking accident lawyer as soon as possible to ensure their rights are fully protected.

Compensation for Semi-Truck Accidents

Legal counsel should be sought by someone who has suffered a major injury in an accident involving a commercial vehicle so that they may pursue justice against the responsible parties. It can be extremely valuable to hire a truck accident lawyer who has experience handling a wide range of cases in such situations. Obtaining fair compensation for your injuries with the help of legal counsel can protect your rights.
