What to Expect from the Personal Injury Claims Process

A motor vehicle collision has the potential to result in immense losses for injured parties and their families. These include property damage, lost income, medical bills for accident-related injuries, and more. No matter the cause of the incident, a car accident may turn a normal day into a stressful ordeal. This is especially true when insurance companies become involved in the situation. As we may expect, insurance carriers stay in business but not entirely for the right reasons in terms of the best interests of claimants. The reason is that they do not pay out on every bodily injury claim filed against their insured, despite liability being clear and evidence establishing damages incurred.

Some of the ways in which an insurance carrier may get out of fairly compensating an injured party for their losses is through using defense tactics. These are generally tailored toward devaluing or denying claims based on a fact or other reason that they deem dubious. For instance, an insurance adjuster assigned to the claim may dispute it and say that the claimant’s injuries are not as serious if medical care was not sought immediately following the car accident. That is why it is crucial to seek treatment right away even if you do not believe you may have suffered a traumatic injury. The reason is that not all injuries manifest in the hours and days following a crash, such as a spinal cord injury or a traumatic brain injury.

As with any car accident, it is crucial to get checked out by a medical professional if you did not go to the hospital. Be sure to note any symptoms you are experiencing with your physician so that they may determine the best treatment plan suitable to your needs and concerns. Do not miss any appointments with your doctor as this may also raise questions for insurance adjusters looking to dispute or deny your claim. What Does it Cost to Hire an Attorney for a Personal Injury Case?

Deciding on whether to retain legal counsel may be a challenging decision for some people as they may worry over the cost of hiring an attorney. However, most personal injury lawyers handle cases under a contingency fee arrangement. This means that no fees are due unless a favorable case outcome is obtained on behalf of the client. If you were injured in a traffic collision because of another party’s negligence, you should not have to worry about paying any upfront fees as any costs for legal representation will only be deducted from a fair settlement or verdict that your accident has secured for you.
