Injuries Reported After Head-On Collision in Fresno

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported major injuries after a head-on collision in Fresno on the evening of Saturday, July 18, 2020. The car accident happened at approximately 8:40 p.m. in the area of East Elkhorn Avenue and Highway 41. A driver of a Kia Optima reportedly made an unsafe pass on southbound Highway 41 and was involved in a head-on collision with a driver of a Honda Civic headed northbound. A Toyota Corolla was also involved in the motor vehicle collision. The stretch of highway where the auto crash occurred consists of one lane in each direction, and there is no island or barrier in the median to separate them. The drivers of the Kia and the Honda were taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota and three other passengers in the Kia were all transported to the hospital. Their injuries were described as minor to moderate. Updates regarding their conditions were not immediately available.

How Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Insurance Works in a Serious Fresno Head-On Collision

One of the most essential options to add to your car insurance policy is uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (UM/UIM). This type of insurance benefit provides additional protection in the event that you are severely injured in an auto crash caused by a driver with state minimum bodily injury coverage or none at all. UM coverage works by covering the damages you suffer after it has been proven that the at-fault party does not have insurance through an SR-19C form filed with the DMV for a financial responsibility information request. UIM coverage comes into play when the driver has insufficient insurance to supplement damages incurred by all parties injured by their negligence. UM/UIM coverage will compensate you for economic and non-economic damages up to the limits of your insurance policy for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. It is a good idea to purchase higher UM/UIM coverage limits offered by your insurance company since many drivers often drive without insurance in California or carry minimal bodily injury liability coverage. While the increase in your insurance premium may be relatively small, this coverage can provide you with peace of mind every time you get behind the wheel of your vehicle.
