44th Street Accident Injuries Involve Fleeing Driver

A hit-and-run accident happened in Sacramento on October 30 that resulted in injuries. The collision occurred at the intersection of 44th Street and 14th Avenue around 4:05 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the collision occurred between a Hyundai Veloster and a green minivan, which blocked the intersection.

Injured Person Transported to the Hospital

Both Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders and Sacramento police arrived at the accident scene to assist. Medics transported at least one person to Methodist Hospital for treatment and additional evaluation. The collision is under investigation by authorities to determine how it happened and to locate the driver involved in the hit-and-run accident.

Hit-and-Run Accidents

Fleeing drivers have become more common these days as people try to avoid legal responsibility for damages to another vehicle and injuries. However, our law firm has located many hit-and-run drivers over the years, so they can be held responsible for the injuries they caused either through their insurance company or in court. The way we locate the vehicle and driver after a hit-and-run involves investigating the accident. Among other areas where information is sought to locate a hit-and-run driver:

  • Our investigators carefully examine the scene of the hit-and-run accident to look for evidence such as paint smears from the vehicle and dropped pieces of the car. This can help identify the make and model of the vehicle.
  • Area business and traffic surveillance cameras are checked to see if the collision was captured on film. This can not only help locate the vehicle but may offer a view of the driver who fled the accident scene.
  • Witnesses to the hit-and-run are interviewed by the investigators. They may be able to describe the vehicle and driver or recall at least part of the license plate number. In some cases, a witness filmed the accident on their camera as it happened.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which indicates how the collision occurred and can show which driver was at fault.

When a Hit-and-Run Driver Can’t Be Located

In some cases, the fleeing driver can’t be located. However, there is another option that the injured person can use to pay for their accident injuries. This is through using their uninsured/underinsured insurance policy. This add-on policy is offered to California drivers when they first elect to take car insurance, and many do because of the number of motorists in the state who either have no coverage or not enough.

If the injured individual doesn’t have this add-on insurance policy, but another member of the household does, that can be used instead. It will not increase or affect the rates in the future.
