The Concord Police Department recently released a photo of a vehicle believed to be involved in a hit-and-run bicycle collision that occurred on December 21, 2022. The incident occurred at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Farm Bureau Road and Concord Boulevard, according to officials.

Details on the Hit-and-Run Bicycle Collision in Concord

A preliminary report by Concord PD revealed that a 57-year-old Concord man was riding his bicycle on Farm Bureau Road when he was allegedly hit by a vehicle traveling on Concord Boulevard. The suspect vehicle allegedly left the scene. The injured cyclist was treated at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek.

The suspect vehicle, a gray or silver Toyota Tundra extended cab (years 2000-2006), was last seen headed eastbound on Concord Boulevard following the incident. The pickup truck is expected to have minor front-end damage. This was based on video surveillance footage recovered by officials.

An investigation into the incident and the suspect party is ongoing. Those with information on the hit-and-run bicycle accident on Farm Bureau Road are encouraged to call the Concord Police Department’s Traffic Bureau at (925) 671-5096.

Is There Financial Recovery Available in Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident Cases?

Hit-and-run accidents are not uncommon in California. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, approximately 39 hit-and-run accidents causing injury or death occurred in Concord in 2020 alone. Those facing such a situation may be under the impression that their opportunity for financial recovery may be non-existent if the suspect driver is not located. However, this is not always the case if an accident attorney is hired to handle the matter. A Concord personal injury lawyer with the experience and resources will work with a private investigator to track down the suspect party.

There are some situations where efforts to locate the suspect driver have been exhausted, and other avenues for financial recovery must be explored. In the case of a hit-and-run bicycle accident, an injured cyclist may have recourse if they or a family member in their household has uninsured motorist coverage. In the latter, an injured bicyclist may file a UM claim through their household member’s insurance policy so long as they were not excluded from the plan. This may provide reimbursement for injuries and damages up to the limits of the policy. For more information, watch this video.

Is There a Deadline on Personal Injury Cases in California?

There is a time window known as the statute of limitations that applies to personal injury cases. In California, it is generally required that a claimant files for personal injury within two years from the date of the accident. Specific exceptions to the rule may also be involved, such as the involvement of a public entity. If this is the case, claimants only have 180 days to file a notice of claim against the appropriate government entity.

If the personal injury lawsuit is filed after the deadline, it is unlikely that the court will consider the case. Therefore, it is crucial to retain legal counsel to ensure the case is filed on time. A skilled injury lawyer can help you through the legal process to ensure that all filing criteria are met and that you have an opportunity to seek maximum compensation and justice.
