Brentwood Man Killed in Head-On Crash
Last week, local authorities were able to identify the man who died in a three-vehicle accident in Brentwood on Balfour Road on Sunday, August 25. Victor Torres, a 70-year-old from Brentwood, died after reportedly colliding into a car during an attempt to pass another vehicle. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s office was able to confirm Torres’s identity in the days following the crash. No other significant injuries were reported.
Balfour Rd Accident Details
Shortly before 9:00 a.m. on the Sunday morning of the crash, first responders were dispatched to a car wreck that involved three cars on Balfour Road near American Avenue. Torres was driving a Nissan Altima in the eastbound direction of Balfour before he reportedly crossed double solid yellow lanes of traffic going the opposite direction. Authorities say in the process of trying to pass a Mini Cooper, Torres collided head-on with a Toyota minivan that had been in the westbound lane.
Torres was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the white minivan was transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the Mini Cooper, whose vehicle got clipped by the Nissan Altima, was able to walk away from the collision unharmed and stable.
Balfour Road was temporarily closed on Sunday morning while officials investigated the collision and cleared the cars. The road was reopened around 1:30 p.m. that day. It has yet to be determined if illegal drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor to this accident. An investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
