Christmas Stocking Stuffers for Dogs

When you hang your family’s Christmas stockings on the mantel, do you include one for your pets?  Many people do.  Stores even sell pre-stuffed pet stockings.  But if you prefer to do the stuffing yourself, we have curated a list of fun and economical dog products so that your good boy has plenty to thank “Santa Claws” for on Christmas morning.

What Should I Put in My Dog’s Christmas Stocking?

  • Kong Classic Dog Toy: This all-natural red rubber chew toy is made in the USA.  The toy can be stuffed with peanut butter, kibble, or other small treats for extra enjoyment.  The Kong Classic has been used by dog trainers and veterinarians for more than 40 years.  Chewing helps relieve boredom and separation anxiety.  The unpredictable bouncing aspect of Kong Classic even allows your dog to initiate his own game of fetch.
  • Bacon & Cheese flavored dog snacks.  Around the holidays, the house is often filled with scents of delicious foods. This can drive a dog insane.  Don’t leave them out of the gluttony – how can you go wrong with bacon & cheese flavored treats?
  • It is the holiday season, time to “don we now our gay apparel.”  If your dog likes to primp, this cute and festive checkered flower accessory attaches to the collar.
  • It may be cliche, but cartoons throughout history have taught us that dogs love fire hydrants.  Let him have his very own with this hydrant chew toy.

All of the above doggie treats will have your pet feeling loved and included on Christmas morning.  And the entire bunch will only set you back around $25!  Of course, each dog is an individual, and while these are some tried and true dog favorites, the stocking stuffer options at pet stores and online are plentiful, and you can find all sorts of ideas that may better suit your canine’s particular tastes.

Bonus Christmas Dog Biscuit Recipe

Since many of us are baking holiday treats anyway, why not add in a simple recipe for homemade dog biscuits?  The recipe below is for Peanut Butter Dog Treats, and if humans in the household are tempted and want to take a bite, that’s perfectly okay too.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup natural peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 egg

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Combine the flour, baking powder, and egg in a large mixing bowl.  Once combined, add in peanut butter, honey, and water.  Stir the mixture until it becomes a thick dough.  It will be very sticky, so you may need to use the paddle attachment of your mixer or your hands.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick.  Cut out shapes with cookie cutters (doggie or bone-shaped would be perfect) and place them on a cookie sheet that you have lined with parchment paper. The biscuits will rise and spread very little while baking.  Bake until golden, about 20 minutes.  Store the biscuits in an airtight container. These are also great to give as gifts to your dog-loving friends.
