Fiery Tahoe Trucking Accident Causes Fatality

One person was left with fatal trauma after a fiery Tahoe trucking accident that took place on Saturday, September 7, 2019. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers indicated that the crash involved two vehicles including a commercial truck hauling petroleum and a small sedan. In addition to the fatally injured man, one more person suffered major injuries as a result of the crash. County authorities are currently withholding the name of the decedent, and the accident remains under investigation.

Crash Information

Police reported that the accident took place at around 11:45 on Highway 50 between Myers and South Lake Tahoe. A large tanker truck was heading east on 50 near Elks Club Drive. At the same time, a sedan attempted to turn onto the freeway from Elks Club Drive. While turning, the sedan and the truck collided, causing the truck to overturn. After rolling over, the tanker exploded. Starting a fire and sending a thick column of smoke up into the air. Several fire agencies reportedly saw the smoke and responded immediately.

CHP Officer Eulogio Teja told reporters that the particular petroleum product that the tanker had been carrying is not currently known. Teja also indicated that an unknown amount of the chemical leaked from the accident site into the Upper Truckee River.

Injuries

When emergency officials got to the scene of the collision, they found that both drivers had been seriously injured. The driver of the sedan was found with major trauma and was taken by ambulance to the Barton Memorial Hospital. Tragically, the truck driver could not be helped and was declared deceased on-site.

Trucking Accidents and Wrongful Death

Commercial vehicles are most often owned by a large holding company. These companies are well aware of the risks that their employees and other roadway users face, especially with large vehicles that often carry dangerous chemicals. For this reason, companies typically take action right away in order to defend themselves from any liability related to a crash. This often includes sending an accident response team to the site of a collision in order to take their own evidence and statements from witnesses.

Because trucking companies act quickly, it’s very important for the families of people who’ve lost their lives in these accidents to get in touch with a lawyer as soon as they can. A good attorney will be able to represent your family by conducting a private investigation and making sure that you receive the full amount of compensation you are owed for the terrible loss you have suffered. Often, families who get in touch with a lawyer early on are able to claim payments for lost household income, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and more.
