Northern California FedEx Accidents

I’m Ed Smith, a FedEx truck accident lawyer. Over recent months, there have been a number of FedEx truck accidents in Northern California.

August 10, 2017,  Corning

On August 10, 2017, a collision involving a FedEx truck occurred in Corning, California. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP)’s report on the incident, a wrong-way driver lost his life after colliding with an oncoming FedEx delivery vehicle on highway Interstate 5.

The driver, a 24-year-old resident of Washington state, had been driving north on I5’s southbound lane at about 3:15 a.m. in a Green Honda Civic. Officers say that the driver was near the exit for Sour Grass Road south of Corning when he collided head-on with an oncoming FedEx truck attempting to pass a tractor-trailer.

Injuries

CHP reported that the driver of the Civic received fatal injuries during the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The driver of the FedEx vehicle, a 64-year-old Redding resident, was reportedly not injured in the accident.

June 14, 2017, Redding

Another recent area FedEx accident occurred on June 14, 2017, when a FedEx delivery van driver rear-ended a tractor-trailer on highway Interstate 5 in Redding.

CHP’s report indicates that the FedEx driver had been in the fast lane of the highway at about 9:45 a.m. when a sneeze caused him to veer into the lane to his right. After veering into the right lane, the driver could not slow down in time to avoid colliding with the rear-end of a semi.

CHP officials said that the driver of FedEx truck sustained traumatic injuries while the driver of that big rig, a 42-year-old Oregon resident, was not harmed in the collision.

FedEx Accidents

While delivery truck drivers all receive training in driving large trucks, their training is often inadequate which, in combination with pressure to deliver packages quickly, often results in collisions resulting in traumatic injuries. FedEx truck accidents can also be caused by factors such as improper vehicle maintenance, sleep-deprived drivers ignoring federal sleep regulations, drivers who ignore traffic laws in order to deliver packages as quickly as possible, and more.

Injury cases that involve delivery trucks owned by companies such as FedEx are often difficult to navigate because many parties, including both companies and individuals, can be held liable for damages caused by the accident. Usually, a case involving a FedEx truck will involve a complex set of liabilities that somebody without experience can easily get lost in or even simply ignore by accident. Having an injury lawyer with experience in handling delivery truck cases can help ensure you receive the full compensation you are owed.
