Fatal Crash on SR-108 in Sonora Area
Authorities reported a fatal crash on SR-108 in the Sonora area on the afternoon of Sunday, July 24, 2022. The car accident took place on Highway 108 just west of Old Wards Ferry Road and involved two vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 72-year-old Tuolumne man was behind the wheel of a 2006 Lexus ES330 traveling eastbound on State Route 108 in the No. 1 Lane. At the same time, a 41-year-old man from Sonora was headed westbound on SR-108 in a 2003 Mitsubishi Mirage. For unknown reasons, one of the vehicles allegedly veered over the double yellow lines and collided head-on with the other.
The Lexus driver was transported via air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of serious injuries. Sadly, the Mitsubishi driver succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the head-on collision. The cause of the incident remains under investigation by CHP traffic officers. Additional information on the fatal crash was not immediately available.
