Dump Truck Driver Injured in Davis Area Accident

Authorities reported that the driver of a dump truck was injured during an accident that took place in Yolo County near Davis on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. The collision involved only one vehicle and did not injure any other individuals. The injured man was identified as a 49-year-old from Elk Grove, and medical officials indicated that his injuries were not considered life-threatening. California Highway Patrol (CHP) says that they are in the process of investigating possible causes of this accident.

Crash Details

The accident reportedly happened at around 9:30 a.m. at the Yolo County Central Landfill located on County Road 28H. The Elk Grove man was operating a Volvo Articulated dump truck as an employee of the landfill when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. After he lost control, the dump truck traveled down a small embankment and overturned, coming to a rest on its roof. Pictures taken at the accident scene show major damage to the cab of the vehicle.

Firefighters and paramedics were sent out from the city of Davis and UC Davis in order to respond to the collision. When emergency response personnel arrived, they found that the driver had sustained significant injuries and had him transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in order to be given treatment.

Investigation

CHP authorities have stated that their preliminary investigations showed that the driver had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. As investigations continue, officials have not yet been able to determine what may have caused the driver to lose control of the dump truck. Furthermore, Cal/OSHA reported that they will not be opening an investigation into the incident as it occurred on a public roadway.

Roof Crush Injuries

When vehicles overturn, there is a chance that the roof of the vehicle will not be strong enough to keep occupants safe. When this happens, drivers and passengers are liable to suffer roof crush injuries that could have been avoided if manufacturers had ensured that their product was safe. In cases like this, injured parties are often able to claim money from vehicle manufacturers in order to cover damages related to their injuries.

Contacting an Injury Lawyer

After you have been involved in a car accident, it is important to get in touch with a lawyer as soon as you can. The sooner your attorney can begin investigating the accident and putting together your case, the better they can ensure that you receive the full compensation that you deserve. It’s important to note that while most injury cases can be filed up to two years after the date of the accident, the time limit is much shorter for accidents that involve a government vehicle. These claims need to be filed within six months. For more information about how to make sure your case is heard, contact a Davis personal injury lawyer today.
