Bicycle Rider Injured by Dump Truck on Ridge Road

A dump truck accident involving a bicycle rider occurred in Newcastle near Auburn on January 21. The crash occurred at the intersection of Ridge Road and Uncle Joe’s Lane around 11:24 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Fire department first responders were called to the accident scene to assess injuries to the bicycle rider.

Bicyclist Transported to Hospital with Injuries

The bicycle rider was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with a possible bone fracture. The CHP is conducting an investigation to determine how the collision happened.

Dangers Associated With Dump Trucks

When a dump truck driver takes a turn too fast at over 15 mph, it tends to tip over easily. High centers of gravity, shifting loads and the weight of the cargo they are hauling all contribute to their instabilities. A rollover can be caused even by a slight slope.

In addition, the truck sits up high, and the driver has poor visibility on the front and sides and cannot see the back unless mirrors are mounted. Big blind spots can prevent seeing other vehicles or those closer to the ground.

Can the Driver’s Employer Be Held Liable for the Accident?

A dump truck driver who is negligent and causes an accident that results in injuries or fatalities may be responsible financially. The majority of these trucks are owned by companies that employ their drivers.

It is also possible for the employer to be held liable in some cases. Other times, the company contracted out the driving of the truck instead of using its own employees. Companies or subcontractors can be held financially responsible for injuries caused by crashes if any of the following types of negligence were present:

  • There was an excess of cargo weight being pulled, which affected the trucker’s driving.
  • There was insufficient training for the driver to operate this type of truck.
  • Drivers were forced to drive at unsafe speeds due to unrealistic deadlines.
  • This accident occurred due to inadequate safety inspections and problems with the truck’s tires, brakes or other parts.
  • It is common for a big truck to roll over when the driver tries to turn a corner at too high a speed.
  • When the driver is on the road, they must communicate with dispatch or the customer or text, which can be distracting.

Get the Compensation You Deserve With the Help of a Personal Injury Attorney

If a commercial vehicle is involved in an accident, determining who is responsible can be challenging. It is here that an accident attorney can be of assistance. By investigating your accident, they can uncover who is at fault and gather the evidence needed to support your claim.

Additionally, the lawyer will collect your medical expenses and calculate any damages you may be entitled to. You can also employ them to negotiate with the insurance company of the at-fault party on your behalf so that you get the compensation you deserve. The lawyer can file a lawsuit if the insurance company refuses to compensate you fairly. If you do not win your case, you do not owe anything.
