Dixon Man Fatally Injured During Rural Vacaville Crash

On Friday, September 27, 2019, one person lost their life in a collision that took place in a rural location in Vacaville. The man was identified by Solano County authorities as William Stevens, a 51-year-old Dixon man. According to officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), this accident involved only a single vehicle and happened in the late evening. The incident is being actively investigated.

Crash Details

CHP stated that this accident happened at around 7:20 p.m. Stevens had been driving a 2007 Honda Civic south on N. Meridian Road and had just passed Elizabeth Road when he apparently lost control of his vehicle. The Civic reportedly veered off the road and overturned, rolling multiple times before finally coming to a stop. Further details about the crash were unavailable.

Responders were dispatched to the crash scene directly after CHP received a call reporting the accident. When officers arrived, they discovered Stevens inside of his wrecked vehicle and determined that he had sustained major injuries during the crash. Stevens was placed on a ground ambulance and rushed to a hospital. Tragically, doctors could not save his life, and he was declared deceased at 8:37 p.m. while in hospital custody.

Investigation

As CHP continues their investigation into possible causes of this accident, officers have asked for help from the public. Anybody who may have information about this accident has been asked to get in touch with CHP either by calling 1-800-TELL-CHP or contacting the Solano Area Office at 707-428-2100. Officer David Harvey noted in a press release that any information about this crash would be “greatly appreciated.”

Rollover Accidents

According to the NHTSA, rollovers are much more dangerous than most other types of accidents and account for a disproportionate number of roadway fatalities. One of the main reasons that these crashes are so dangerous is that vehicle roofs are often not able to withstand the force of a crash. Because of this, occupants of vehicles are liable to suffer what is called “roof crush injuries.”

Vehicle manufacturers are expected to ensure the safety of the products that they sell. When a vehicle is not able to protect its occupants in the event of a crash, the company is often liable to pay for damages related to the accident. In wrongful death cases, negligent parties like auto product manufacturers can be held responsible for things like medical expenses, lost income, emotional trauma, funeral expenses, and more. By seeking these forms of compensation, families can gain the financial stability they need during a difficult time and can focus on the important task of healing emotionally and personally.
