Crash Kills Stockton Woman

I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton auto accident lawyer. A woman was tragically killed in a Stockton traffic collision on Monday, May 9, 2016.

What Happened?

A woman passed away after a pickup truck struck her SUV on a country road located in southeast Stockton.

The incident report came in about 4:00 p.m.  The crash occurred in the vicinity of Beecher and East Fairchild roads. The California Highway Patrol (CHP), indicated that a 71-year-old woman of Stockton was heading northbound along Beecher Road when for unknown reasons she tried to cross East Fairchild Road.

Who Was At Fault?

The crash is under investigation. A preliminary report indicated that the woman drove her SUV into the path of a 49-year-old man from Ceres who was behind the wheel of a 2005 Chevy pickup who was proceeding west along Fairchild Road. The area has a posted speed limit of 55 mph and no stop sign at the intersection, according to officers. Authorities said the woman may have ran the stop sign along Beecher Road or may not have seen the pickup advancing toward her.

The driver of the Chevy pickup tried to stop, but he wasn’t able to avoid a collision, investigators said. The front of the man’s Chevy pickup smashed into the right side of  the woman’s SUV, which eventually came to rest in the brush area of the south side of the roadway.

What Kind of Injuries?

Emergency crews found the woman in an unresponsive state, officers said. They worked to save her life, but sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers stated the woman did not appear to be wearing her seat belt.

The driver of the Chevy pickup was not hurt, according to CHP officers.

Neither alcohol or drugs appeared to be a factor in the tragic collision.
