Fatal Pedestrian Accident Occurs on Antelope Road

A resident of Citrus Heights was killed recently in a fatal pedestrian accident involving a vehicle. The deceased was identified as Vira Zheltonozhko, 82, by the County Coroner’s Office. The accident occurred on eastbound Antelope Road. When officers arrived at the crash scene, they found the pedestrian lying on the sidewalk. Although resuscitative efforts were made, she died at the accident scene.

Driver Remains at Scene of Fatal Pedestrian Accident

The driver that struck the pedestrian remained at the site of the fatal collision and was uninjured. In addition, it was reported that a traffic light and utility poles were damaged. The street was shut down from Auburn Boulevard to Lauppe Lane around 8:19 p.m., according to the Citrus Heights Police Department. An accident investigation will determine why the accident occurred.

The Basis for a Wrongful Death Claim

In order for an individual to successfully recover wrongful death compensation in a fatal pedestrian accident, there must be sufficient evidence that the defendant’s conduct was negligent or intentional. This includes any documents or physical evidence which may prove the defendant’s negligence, as well as witness statements and other forms of testimony. Your injury lawyer will work hard to recover the evidence to support your claim, such as interviewing witnesses, performing accident reconstruction, and checking for traffic surveillance camera footage.

Filing a Wrongful Death Claim and Who Can Recover Compensation

By filing a wrongful death claim following a fatal pedestrian accident, the family may obtain justice for their loss and help avoid the financial distress that often accompanies a pedestrian accident. California allows immediate family members to recover compensation, such as the spouse and children. A variety of damages are recoverable, including funeral costs, pain and suffering, lost wages from the deceased, and loss of consortium and household assistance. In some cases, punitive damages can also be awarded in order to punish the defendant for their negligent conduct. In instances where the loved one lived for a time before dying, a survival action might be placed to recover the cost of medical expenses and for their pain and suffering.

An injury lawyer helps remove the burden of the loss of your family member by taking the case on his/her own shoulders. This allows the family the ability to grieve in peace without worry about the financial repercussions caused by the death. In addition, by seeking legal guidance from an experienced lawyer, a family can obtain a sense of closure and know that justice was served.
