Bydureon Side Effects

Bydureon Side Effects

Despite all of the different medical research that has been completed, there are still significant challenges facing the healthcare community today. One of the most pressing issues is the alarming rate at which diabetes is rising. According to statistics which have been published by the American Diabetes Association:

  • About 10 percent of the population in the United States has diabetes, according to a review published in 2015
  • This amounts to over 30 million people
  • About a quarter of these people are still undiagnosed
  • Diabetes is highest in the elderly, with about a quarter of people over 65 suffering from diabetes.
  • Every year, about one and a half million people are diagnosed with diabetes.
  • It is the 7th leading cause of death in this country.

Clearly, this is a significant problem in this country. The medical community has noted that many new medications have been developed to help people treat diabetes. The goal of these medications is to help people regulate their weight, insulin, and blood glucose levels to try and prevent some of the complications of diabetes from developing. One of the newer medications is called Bydureon. How does this work, and what are some of the Bydureon side effects?

Mechanism of Bydureon

Bydureon is an injectable medication that people use to control diabetes. It is an extended-release medication, which means that once injected, it builds up in the blood slowly. This helps it last longer and prevents it from being re-injected frequently. The goal of this medication is to help the pancreas produce more insulin. In this fashion, the medication helps people control their blood sugar levels. People should think of this diabetes medication as a long-acting form of the popular medicine Exenatide.

Side Effects to Remember

Like many other medications, Bydureon has different side effects that people should understand. In addition to pain over the injection site, the most concerning side effect that people should watch for is low blood sugar. Signs of low blood sugar include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Confusion
  • Sweating
  • Hunger
  • A headache
  • Diarrhea

The most dangerous consequence of low blood sugar is seizures. When someone’s blood sugar drops too low, their brain no longer has the energy to function correctly. The brain responds by having a seizure, which could be fatal. Therefore, people should check their blood sugar regularly and ensure they always use the proper dose of Bydureon.

Help from Expert Legal Counsel

Bydureon is used to help people manage their diabetes; however, there are also Bydureon side effects that can create safety issues. Sometimes, these side effects can place people in a hospital for a prolonged period, placing their loved ones under significant stress. For help with this and numerous other medical issues, meeting with a personal injury lawyer in Sacramento is a good idea. Ensure a trained legal professional goes over all the details to ensure that nothing has been overlooked. You and your family could receive financial compensation if this drug negatively impacted you.
